We are looking for a passionate individual who wants to work at the forefront of renewable energy and sustainability to join our Octopus Renewables Funds Finance team.

If you’re highly organised, capable of dealing with multiple workstreams and running defined processes efficiently and autonomously, and want to build your skill set within finance, then this role is for you! To excel in this role, it is essential that you are proactive, keen to learn, focused, self-motivated and able to work under deadlines.
Octopus Renewables has recently moved over from Octopus Investments to the Octopus Energy Group. This gives our business a unique proposition in how renewable energy is generated, to how it reaches the final consumer. Due to several rounds of investment, we are looking at growing our generation teams in line with our rapidly scaling business.

We currently manage investments in energy generating assets valued in excess of £4 billion. The assets we invest in and manage are across a range of geographical locations and include solar power parks, wind farms, reserve power plants (gas fired generators), biomass and landfill gas projects as well as anaerobic digestion systems. Our mission is to accelerate the transition to a future powered by renewable energy.

Octopus Renewables’ Funds Finance are responsible for the financial reporting and analysis for an expanding portfolio of renewable assets that are owned by a number of Retail, Institutional and Listed Funds. The Assistant Accountant will be predominantly responsible for our newest development fund, working with their manager on bookkeeping of the SPV financial information, and accounts payable for the development assets. Responsibilities will also include treasury, accounts payable, VAT return preparation and bookkeeping for entities managed in house, giving them exposure to an array of funds, the wider team and workstreams.

What you’ll do

    • Treasury duties and accounts payable including bank reconciliations, payment input and administration for OR’s online banking platforms
    • Administration of the OR’s banks including account opening, closure, and management of mandates
    • Bookkeeping and VAT returns
    • Ad hoc projects as assigned by your manager
    • Help with ad hoc general finance admin within the team
    • Be a valued business partner and build and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
    • Identify system improvements and help to drive change across the team.

What you’ll need

    • A degree in accounting, finance
    • Experience ideally previous experience working in a Treasury team or accounts payable role.
    • Excellent attention to detail Highly organised, able to plan ahead to deliver accurate information to tight reporting deadlines.
    • Excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to work well with different teams and manage a range of different stakeholders
    • Self-motivated and aspirational, comfortable working in a fast-paced changing environment
