POSITION TITLE: Director of Preschool

POSITION SUMMARY: Effectively operates and manages all aspects of a developmentally appropriate Early Childhood and Kindergarten Program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise preschool staff
• Overall responsibilities for managing and overseeing all aspects of a private faith-based preschool to include health and safety, enrollment and financial wellness, staffing, training and retention, campus management, and delivery of high-quality early education and care
• Maintain strong relationships with families, staff, community, and church
• Manage budgets/forecasts, licensing, and current regulations
• Cultivate and maintain a safe and enjoyable culture in a fast-paced environment
• Provides guidance and counseling to parents of enrolled children
• Ability to perform all essential functions for each position in the preschool

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, or related field per

California Community Care Licensing; State of California Commission of TeacherCredentialing; and NAEYC Accreditation standard and licensing of San Diego County.

• Completion of all Qualifying Postsecondary Courses that meets Director Qualifications per California Community Care Licensing
• 3-5 years of Assistant Director or Director in a licensed childcare facility
• Demonstrates competence related to the application of the Church’s mission, goals, and expectations
• Demonstrates highly effective organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
• Demonstrates the ability to perform all tasks in a timely manner
• Demonstrates competence in the performance of duties and responsibilities related to tasks, skills and procedures rendered to those served

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education: Site Supervisor or Director Permit required (meeting permit requirements is acceptable). Education is based on the State of California Commission of Teacher Credentialing– Child Development Matrix. Transcripts required. Have the ability to communicate clearly in the English language orally and in writing. First Aid and CPR Certificates must remain current.

Experience: Two years experience in the child development field preferred. At least one year of supervision experience in the child development field is required.

Eligibility: Must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States and have fingerprinting clearance. Must provide an initial health clearance and a negative TB test.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY: Interpersonal: Open and effective communication, active listening, positive motivation and collaborative work are desired. Regular staff meetings are organized and facilitated in order to maintain communication among staff and work productively as a team.

Critical Thinking: Must be able to quickly and decisively solve problems as presented while maintaining creativity and flexibility.

Knowledge: Must understand and communicate early childhood development concepts and implement these concepts under the philosophy of the First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside,NAEYC Accreditation standard and the licensing of San Diego County. Knowledge of the facility, procedures and personnel is expected. Must also possess general knowledge in the area of budget and expenditure reporting.

Ability: The ability to support Christian Education and demonstrate developmentally appropriate practices in the teaching environment is required. The ability to communicate clearly with staff, parents and children while motivating and sharing a positive approach is required. Maintain communication with the community while reaming informed about changes in criteria and regulations. Supervision skills required the ability to conduct performance reviews, provide training to staff, and schedule appropriate staffing assignments.
