NYC Careers Hiring for TRACTOR OPERATOR at New York, NY Full Time

Under general supervision, operates and performs minor maintenance on bladed tractors, articulating off-road hauling trucks, front end loaders, road graders, back hoes, and other specialized equipment in the performance of projects of the City of New York.

• Operates a bladed tractor to move or level piles of fill material. Delivers fill material on articulating off-road trucks to areas where material is needed. Operates a bulldozer to push fill material in compliance with the engineer’s plan as to height and grade.
• Operates a road grader to build and maintain landfill roads. Using a front-end loader, loads various materials into off-road vehicles and trucks. Maintains stockpiles.
• Operates specialized equipment for various functions, including the following: pay hauler, backhoe, swamp cat, road grader, vibratory roller, tractor-drawn water wagon, lubrication truck, LGP tractor, heavy duty recovery vehicle, self-propelled and tow behind scrapers, front end-loader, diesel powered equipment with all attachments, off-road vehicles, excavators, sweepers, equipment used in the transportation of heavy equipment, and related or similar equipment.
• Inspect test, evaluates and maintains all assigned equipment; checks fuel, water, lubricants, etc.; makes minor and emergency repairs and adjustments to all assigned equipment, windows and cabs, utilizing power washer.
• During City Snow removal operations may operate front end-loader, road grader, back hoe, bladed tractors, or other specialized equipment to clear City Street of snow/ice, and to pile and load snow onto trucks.
• Keep records and make s as required.

1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last 15 years in the operation of heavy duty track-type tractors; or

2. Not less than three years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in “1” above, plus either two years in the maintenance of heavy duty track-type tractors, or relevant training acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade or vocational high school.

License Requirement

Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York. There may be certain age requirements to obtain this license. Employees must maintain the Class B Commercial Driver License during their employment.
