An exciting opportunity has arisen for a well informed and highly motivated radiographer to join the Education Department at the Nottingham Breast Institute. The successful candidate will hold the College of Radiographers Post graduate Award in Mammography, or equivalent, and will act as the Educational Leader for the Masters level modules studied in collaboration with our University Partner and the mammography associate apprenticeship.

The post holder will supervise a small team of clinical mammography trainers and education centre administrative staff and will actively develop, implement and promote further training and educational opportunities for radiographers and other health professionals involved in the field of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
There will be a requirement to work with the Director of Training to promote and market the activities of the Education Centre to ensure its viablity and profitability.
Mammography posts have a gendered protected character, due to the nature of the work. This is an occupational requirement, as a result the post is exempt under section 9; part 1 of the Equality Act 2010 and therefore only female applicants should apply.
Since 1988 the Nottingham centre has been at the forefront of educating professionals involved in breast cancer screening in the UK and beyond.
From the beginning we have emphasised the importance of multi-disciplinary breast care and have tailored courses to reflect this. We offer a comprehensive breast screening training programme. We continually develop our training portfolio to ensure that the latest techniques and thinking on breast screening and breast cancer care are reflected in our course content.
A large proportion of those involved with the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme have attended courses in Nottingham. Nottingham is well known internationally and this has been reflected in the cosmopolitan profile of the delegates who visit each year for teaching courses and secondments.
The unit has a collaborative partnership with Birmingham City University with which it runs a post graduate award in mammography and MSc modules in image interpretation and reporting and X-ray guided breast interventional techniques.
To act as Educational Leader for the NIBEC training portfolio. This will include the delivery of Master’s level post graduate modules studied in collaboration with our University partner, additional study days and any future breast imaging apprenticeships.
To ensure course content is regularly updated so that courses delivered provide the most current information and technological advances in breast imaging and diagnosis
To work closely with and advise the collaborative University with strategic planning of current and new development of courses.
To have strong written and presentation skills to lecture and teach both small and large groups of health professionals; co-ordinate and lead workshops and tutorials
To evaluate written academic work submitted by pre and post registration students. To have knowledge of student progression pathways and where and when necessary update the intellectual content and programme specifics of the modules in line with new developments and university reviews.
To evaluate the clinical competence of radiographers and assistant practitioners undertaking mammography training and engage with collaborative partners to facilitate student progression and achievement of curriculum competencies
To establish good networking and promote shared learning opportunities.
To have sound knowledge of University policies and regulations to support and manage post graduate students and to protect their personal and professional data under GDPR requirements. Identify and provide learning needs and supportive provisions, where necessary and appropriate liaise with service managers to offer alternative options in order to accommodate individual training needs.
To supervisor and mentor a team of clinical mammography trainers and education centre administrative staff, providing guidance and support
To research, develop and implement new and innovative training and educational opportunities for health professionals involved in breast diagnosis and treatment, including practitioners in mammography. Where required actively participate in research, equipment evaluation and audit projects.
To represent the Nottingham Training Centre at relevant National meetings.
To monitor and implement customer feedback to improve customer experience and meet customer expectations
To work with other training centres to develop educational programmes as required and assist in the writing and development of curriculum content in line with agreed standards.
To participate with national governing bodies and contribute to the reviewing and updating online e-learning modules, as required.
To lead by example by maintaining professional behaviour, appearance and attitude at all times in-order to motivate, inspire and influence others.
Adapt to changes and manage changing situations without compromising service delivery.
Oversee the effective administration of all training events
To provide and update educational handbooks in support of theoretical and work-based learning
To manage and be the designated author of online student portal ( Moodle)
To balance and negotiate practical placements and training requirements for the training radiographers against clinical pressures.
To collaborate with relevant bodies to innovate and facilitate the development of the business plan for the Blamey Education Centre
General Management
Proactively support clinical colleagues in implementing new practices when necessary.
To assist the Radiography Service Manager with staff management with relation to the service complying with annual leave, sickness, disciplinary and grievance procedures of the Trust.
Participate in the Trust Appraisal process for radiography staff, assistant practitioners, radiographic helpers and other staff within the dept.
To offer advice and work closely with the Radiography Service Manager with regards to training related concerns with staff.
Marketing and Financial
To work with the Director of Training and the wider clinical team to maintain Nottingham’s position as the premier provider of breast education in the UK
To make and sustain positive relationships with key stakeholders, education providers other relevant organisations within the Trust and wider health care community to secure sponsorship and resources, key to ensuring the education Centre’s profitability.
To develop, implement and review a framework for marketing of training courses, to include a media plan for advertising and promoting training activities and services.
To prepare, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, marketing and promotional materials outlining the Breast Services training courses
To maintain accurate financial records and statistics to ensure that the Training Centre is profitable and viable.
Have level 3 authorisation and effectively manage the budget allocated for the Education Centre.
Clinical:
Mammographic practice to support service delivery which may include the following:
mammographic examination of symptomatic and asymptomatic patients at both static and mobile screening units
Specialised mammography, including stereotactic localisation
