Job overview

This post will work within Research and Innovation in the Ambulatory Care division, specifically the Ophthalmology team. The post will work on a project funded by Innovate UK and will work to develop an app that is for home monitoring of vision for elderly patients with Macular degeneration.

The app itself has been developed by OKKOHealth and the development team is a partnership between Nottingham University Hospital Trust, OKKOHealth and the Macular Society.

Macular degeneration is the commonest cause of visual impairment in the developed world. Treatment for it requires long-term monitoring which is currently hospital based and the aim is to develop a mobile phone based app that will allow a degree of home based monitoring to occur, thereby reducing the burden on both the patient and the NHS.

We are looking for an experienced Digital Project Manager with all round skills who will:

  • Be a proactive role-model who is pivotal in ensuring positive collaborative working both internal and external to the trust
  • Ensure that best practice, standards, tools and techniques are in place
  • Provide IT support for clinical development and validation of the app

-Provide technical support and troubleshoot issues as they arise-

  • Directly communicate with service users
  • Be responsible for developing the project by raising the profile among health professionals and patients.
  • Ensure the efficient set up of the app by implementing and maintaining systems and processes that ensures high standards are maintained.
  • Act as professional resource to the multi-professional team, patients and carers within this research area, as appropriate to your professional group and training
  • Co-ordinate and manage your own workload and regularly provide updates to the senior team
  • Be expected to travel and work across all NUH campuses and the wider health community

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Leadership

  • To provide project management expertise to the project board/s, managers and teams throughout the organisation
  • To work with the Ophthalmology team in ensuring that the project is adequately planned in terms of resources to deliver a successful outcome
  • Through leadership and motivation, develop an effective team working towards the agreed project goals
  • Lead the delivery of project plans, allocating tasks as appropriate, identifying risks, issues and dependencies; consider best practice and current options and ultimately make recommendations in the best interest of the project and escalating as required

Communications:

  • To liaise with and build strong relationships with stakeholders to support the successful delivery of the project
  • Work with the Project Team to identify, involve and incorporate the views and needs of patients, the public, NHS staff and stakeholders and ensure their voices are evident in all stages of work
  • To liaise with and ensure the appropriate level of Patient and Public Involvement engagement throughout the lifecycle of a project. This includes Digital Services PPI representatives as well other Trust groups, including regional where appropriate
  • Demonstrate effective stakeholder management and pro-actively manage stakeholders, respond to and resolve conflict when this arises through facilitation or other appropriate mechanisms.
  • To structure and record any process mapping which may be required by specific teams to facilitate project decisions and direction
  • Responsible for ensuring that success is publicised through the appropriate channels and best practice shared across the organisation.

Quality and Governance

  • Ensure alignment of projects with finance information, patient safety, patient experience and organisational development agendas.
  • To manage project phases including ensuring agreed and approved Data Protection Impact Assessment, Clinical Safety Assessment and Quality Impact Assessment sign-offs are completed to enable the project be implemented on time and within budget
  • To follow the approved Digital Services Project Management Policy and filing structures in accordance with our Quality Management System audit requirements
  • To liaise with the project board or it’s appointed project assurance roles to assure the overall direction and integrity of the project
  • Promote a culture where governance and risk management are seen to be everyone’s responsibility

Management

  • To manage, monitor and document project budgets in line with Research and Innovation and NUH policy
  • Support the Senior team by managing any issues arising and reporting back department as required.
  • Provide line management support and training/mentorship for the Project Support Officers and junior project managers within the Programme Management Office as required.
  • To manage and maintain a Project documentation store including Project Risk logs, Information Governance Safety assessments, Project Initiation Document and all other information and documentation relating to the Project.

Professional:

  • Maintain expert knowledge of field and best practice developments across the communications fields
  • Maintain and update a Professional Portfolio and Professional Development Plan. Undertake courses and other activities to satisfy continuing professional development requirements
  • Share good practice with other local and national NHS and ICS partners. Respond to calls for evidence of good practice.
  • Manage own personal and professional development and promote a culture of continuous learning.
  • Be able to work independently and manage own workload to make effective use of time and resources and working to local and national standards

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Educated to Masters degree level in computer science or related subject or has equivalent relevant experience and training

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in designing software that conforms to medical device regulations
  • Achieved an IT/computer qualification (i.e. ECDL or equivalent/higher)
  • Previous experience of working in a research setting with completion of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
