Northwest MS Community College Hiring for Performing Arts Center Director Job at Senatobia, MS Full Time

Northwest Mississippi Community College is constructing a state of the art performing arts center with a theater seating capacity of 1226. The theater will have audio, visual and staging to support touring theatrical performances, concert events, speaking and educational programming. Northwest Community College is seeking a Director to lead the efforts in planning the operations of the theater and lead operations when the center is opened in the Fall of 2022.

Northwest Mississippi Community College is a public community college, the theater will be located on the Senatobia, MS campus which is approximately 40 miles south of Memphis. Northwest Mississippi Community College serves over 7,000 credit students, is the third largest community college in the State of Mississippi and has an 11 county service district.

Roles and Responsibilities

Strategic Vision and Program Leadership

The Director will provide leadership, coordination and management of the Center. Duties will include overseeing the safe operation of the Center, supervising theater technicians and staff, building a performance calendar, box office operations, food service oversight, participating in the marketing of the theater and its events and responsibility for the operational budget and contracting with performing artist or their management. The role of the director will require working hours in the evening and possibly weekends. The director will be expected to participate in professional organizations related to the operations of performing art centers. The position reports to the Vice President for Administration and Finance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business or other relevant area.
• Demonstration of relevant experience in management.
• The ability to plan operational processes and build a calendar of events that is attractive to the community Northwest Mississippi Community College serves.
• Excellent computer skills with an emphasis on Word and Excel.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to train, direct, and evaluate the performance of staff and volunteers.

Preferred:

• Master’s degree in Business or other relevant area.
• Three (3) years experience in theater management or production.
• Experience with venue management, budgets, contracts and staff supervision.
• Knowledge of sound systems, light systems, set construction and rigging.
• Experience in marketing or public speaking to educate the community of the offerings of the center.

JOB DUTIES:

• The Performance Arts Center Director develops marketing strategies to attract audiences to generate ticket sales.
• Oversee and plan operational processes and build a calendar of events that is attractive to the community Northwest Mississippi Community College serves.
• Responsible for managing event booking for the Center.
• Responsible for reviewing and approving the operation and production budgets.
• Responsible for management of the production staff, volunteers, performers, lighting, set designs and props.
• Responsible for ensuring the facilities are properly maintained.
• Oversee marquee and theatre specific advertising such as signage, banners, and posters, and work with theatre employees and related committees to develop community outreach.
• Oversee the center’s organizational structure and run the day to day activities and operations.
• Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Administration and Finance.

Physical Requirements include a significant amount of walking and stair climbing. Frequent moving of stage equipment and supplies requiring a significant amount of effort. Requires regular lifting of over 10 pounds up to 50 pounds.
