Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced loader operator and log yard assistant with a strong and safe work ethic. s directly to Buena Vista Log Buyer. Hourly Position with benefits, skills and experience will determine rate of pay.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
– Safely and efficiently operate a rubber tired front end loader with forks and log clamp, a stationary and self-propelled knuckleboom loader(s), and a tub grinder for mulch grinding.
– Properly handle, move, and store logs in inventory and in prepared loads. This includes waxing logs and communicating with BVS loader operators.
– Follow established procedures to document and track the receipt, movement, and transfer of logs.
– Keep up with daily maintenance checks and required documentation on all equipment being used each day.
– Take part in the receiving, purchasing, storing, loading, and shipping processes as well as duties associated with these tasks; communicating with loggers and truck drivers.
– Other duties as required, will include chainsaw operation, driving of S irons and other log saving devices and administrative duties.
– Willingness to work at both the Rockbridge yard at the Buena Vista sawmill and also part time at the Fairfield Log Yard.
Skills/Requirements:
– Strong Work Ethic
– Proper use, care, and maintenance of heavy equipment
– Ability to operate heavy equipment for at least 8 hours daily
– Ability to occasionally lift and move 50 pounds or more
– Ability to work on uneven terrain
– Ability to competently and safely operate a chainsaw for the use of bucking and trimming logs
– Knowledge and experience in identifying and recognizing tree species of the Eastern US
– Ability to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions
– Ability and desire to wear personal protective equipment at all times and follow established safety procedures
– Cognitive ability to interpret and follow established administrative procedures
– Experience in log scaling and grading preferred
– Must pass drug screen and background check prior to employment
