Summary: Oversees the education and training of all veterinary nursing team members. Works closely with management team to identify education needs. The Director of Education and Training is responsible for organizing and coordinating education and training that fulfills operational and strategic goals. Charged with establishing and maintaining the integrity of the education and training program. Conducts themself in a professional and polished manner, while embracing and advocating for the core values of hospital. Possess ability to multi task while delivering exceptional customer service to employees, clients, rDVMs, and patients. Position requires excellent communication skills as well as excellent organization, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize.

Responsibilities

• Be able to perform the duties of a Technician Level IV
• Needs Assessment – determine what types of training should be provided to employees. This includes identifying gaps between the skills of individual employees and job function. Analyze the skills that the team as a whole needs to allow the hospital to move forward toward accomplishing its strategic goals and objectives.
• Instructional Design and Development – decide what needs to be taught, finding or creating materials, working with subject matter experts and selecting an appropriate training method.
• Work closely with the management team to create career paths for the veterinary nursing team
• Develop a calendar that details what types of training/education opportunities are being offered; includes a combination of internal training classes and opportunities to attend classes that are delivered by external training companies.
• Responsible for creating, marketing and directing monthly CE lectures for rDVM’s, their staff, and NSV employees.
• Maintain computer equipment, LCD projectors, simulation models, and other equipment necessary to deliver the types of training that the company provides to its employees.
• Be a source of motivation, encourage open communication and foster teamwork
• Participate in the orientation of new staff
• Directly participate in the training of staff through lecturing, demonstrations, side-by-side training
• Evaluate staff performance in meeting training objectives and goals as set in the training program guidelines
• Manage the Policy and Procedures Committee
• Ensure training/ce records are maintained and up to date for each employee
• Responsible for maintaining (with assistance from management team) hospital certifications (AAHA, VECCS, OSHA, VetCot)
• Directly supervise the Training Manager and Extern Coordinator and help oversee the training team members
• Be able to fill any duties of the Training Manager and Extern Coordinator and fill in when needed
• Perform other related duties as required

Requirement: A.A.S or equivalent in on the job experience with CVT. VTS a plus. Must have at least 7 years experience in multi-specialty hospital with prior training/management responsibilities

Job Environment: Fast paced environment requiring multi-tasking and working various hours to accommodate 24-hour facility. The Director will spend long hours researching, developing, and executing training sessions. At least 50% of their time will be spent sitting and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain. The Director will also have to do some lifting of supplies, patients and materials from time to time. Workspace is located in a reasonably quiet office that is communal. There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. The Director will spend long hours in intense concentration in a teaching capacity. Also spend long hours on the computer entering information which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. Travel to off-site locations will be required.
