An exciting opportunity exists for enthusiastic, motivated & dedicated Registered Nurses to advance their careers within the Respiratory Ward in our Postgraduate Respiratory Nursing intake for 2023.

Northern Health has a new dedicated Respiratory Ward consisting of four Respiratory Care Unit beds, which are allocated for complex respiratory patients that require advanced patient assessment skills and knowledge surrounding non-invasive ventilation and other complex treatments.

A day in the life of a Respiratory Nurse Postgraduate Student:

• Assessing, caring and advocating for patients often not to cure but to best manage their signs and symptoms,
• Building technical skills in NIV, ABG, patient assessment, deteriorating patient management,
• Developing non-technical skills in communication, teamwork and situational awareness, collaborating closely with CNCs and Respiratory Medical and allied health teams,
• Opportunity to build and apply knowledge through a structured program,
• Clinical support and timely feedback from experienced Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Support Nurses and Respiratory Clinical Nurse Consultants.

About the program:

• Northern Health’s Postgraduate Nursing program in Respiratory Nursing commences in early February 2023,
• Program runs in partnership with Australian Catholic University,
• Students are employed by Northern Health on a 12-month contract at minimum 48 hours per fortnight,
• Students will be supported by experienced Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Support Nurses and Respiratory Clinical Nurse Consultants,
• This program is full fee paying: please see respective university websites for fees https://courses.acu.edu.au/postgraduate/graduate_certificate_in_clinical_nursing Students should expect to pay the university fees to undertake the program,
• Scholarship opportunities are available for application.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Minimum of 2 years acute care Registered Nursing experience,
• Completed a minimum of 12 months experience in Respiratory Nursing,
• Enrolled in the relevant university program,
• Commitment to a 12 month supported program inclusive of all academic and clinical requirements,
• Effective verbal and written communication skills,
• High level of reliability and professional conduct,
• Well-developed assessment, clinical reasoning, problem solving, organisation and prioritisation skills,
• Highly motivated and willingness to learn,
• Demonstrated provision of quality of patient care.
