The post holder will report into the Finance Manager and will be responsible for a full range of management accounting tasks, across a wide range of services, assisting the Finance Manager in the general day to day duties, providing financial support to the Trust’s budget holders. The post holder will also support topical finance initiatives such as Service Line Reporting and will help to co-ordinate and monitor Cost Improvement Plans.

You will be responsible for advising senior managers on financial issues in a timely, clear and concise manner. This will include Trust wide, as well as specific area issues and will require detailed and robust financial and non-financial analysis.

• Provide and develop timely financial information.
• Ensure accuracy of reporting within the General Ledger for own areas of responsibility.
• Provide assistance and advice to directorates and departments through completion of own enquiries/workload and liaison and co-ordination of others work.
• Act within set timescales and in accordance with Standing Financial Instructions (statutory) whilst prioritising work appropriately.
• Deals with financial services regarding queries from both internal and external parties regarding income and expenditure

Supporting Financial Excellence

• Advises Budget Holders/Department Managers (non-finance managers) on complex financial matters:
• Variances to budget
• Factors affecting costs, income and service
• Liaison with 3rdparties.

•

• Provides management accounting information:
• Ensuring accurate finance system information is reported.
• Ensures correct coding and reporting.
• Checks payroll is accurate and complete.
• Ensures appropriate treatment where Tax/VAT rules may affect costs/income.
• Resolves discrepancies and investigates variances to budget with Budget Holders.
• Prepares monthly and annual budget statements, including quarterly returns in line with set timetables.
• Responsible for correct and timely input and use of data into the financial ledger, including the reconfiguration and manipulation of data for users across the hospital, e.g. journal entries to move expenditure around cost centres.
• Assists in the development and implementation of financial information and develops plans and procedures in own area of work the result being to improve output across the trust.
• Responsible for authorisation of financial transactions and other documents.
• May have junior staff to delegate to and manage and non-finance managers to give finance training to under the guidance of Finance Managers.
• Creates and builds working spreadsheets and databases that comply with audit and other finance regulations.
• Monthly audit of budgets to finance system ensuring production of accurate information.
• Will be required to resolve queries and provide information at very short notice, whilst maintaining routine duties.
• Must use own initiative to prioritise workload at all times.
• Educate and influence non-financial managers when discussing and explaining difficult and stressful financial problems/issues.
• Must be able to use basic financial spreadsheet/database packages and concentrate for long periods of time whilst working on complex pieces of work.
