Job Title: English as a Second Language Teacher 6-12

Summary:

The English as a Second Language teacher works with multilingual learners (MLs) to develop English skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The ESL teacher may collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure best practices for MLs are implemented throughout the school day and that student ILPs are implemented with fidelity.

Educational Responsibilities:

• Establish and maintain instructional schedule/service delivery for ML students
• Plan daily instruction consistent with ML curriculum and objectives and implement activities that allow students to acquire language as well as content-area learning
• Utilize WIDA framework and standards in the development of lesson plans
• Develop Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) for ML students
• Develop educational content including notes, assignments, or assessments
• Provide push in or pull out instruction for ML students
• Progress monitor goals and achievement, maintain data tracking, evaluate and document student progress
• Evaluate student progress through standardized and teacher designed tests, observations, and daily assignments
• May coordinate/model lessons with general education teachers to share instructional responsibilities and techniques for ML students including differentiated instruction
• Meet regularly with EL coordinator and/or staff for training, and to ensure consistent teaching practices throughout the ESL program and implementation of ILPs
• Administer the WIDA ACCESS test and the WIDA screener to Limited English Proficient (LEP) students

Licensing/ Certification Requirements:

• Must hold a valid Indiana State Teacher’s License OR must be eligible to obtain appropriate licensure via reciprocity, emergency, or alternative pathways
• ESL Teaching License
