North Texas Tollway Authority Hiring for Roadside Safety Service Specialist – Plano Location at Plano, TX Full Time

Job Description:

The purpose of the Roadside Safety Services program is to assist in the rapid removal of debris, disabled vehicles and those involved in accidents from the freeway. Specialists assist disabled motorists by providing gas or water, changing tires, performing minor vehicle repairs and recoveries, or pushing vehicles off the roadway (relocation). Specialists assist at accident scenes by providing emergency first aid, providing traffic control, assist with removing damaged vehicles, and/ or removing accident related debris from the roadway. Specialists also assist in setting up, maintaining, and removing emergency detour routes required because of an incident; and, on property damage to the system. Specialists provide directions to lost customers, locate and abandoned vehicles as well as remove debris from the roadway. Specialists accomplish these tasks by patrolling the NTTA roadways, responding to calls from the Safety Operations Center, monitoring equipment, maintaining records, and completing related tasks. Other duties include responding to weather-related emergencies, completing special projects as assigned, ing equipment malfunctions, and assisting other employees.

Job Responsibilities:

• Removal of disabled vehicles and those involved in accidents from the tollway. Assist stranded motorists by providing gas or water, changing tires, performing minor vehicle repairs and recoveries, or pushing vehicles off the roadway (relocation); assist at accident scenes by providing emergency first aid, providing traffic control, assist with removing damaged vehicles, and/ or removing accident related debris from the roadway; assist in setting up, maintaining and removing emergency detour routes required because of an incident; and, on property damage to and around the tollway system.
• Provide directions to stranded motorists; and affix removal stickers to abandoned vehicles; remove debris from the roadway. Able to work with major accident victims and scenes, fatality accidents, and high speed traffic. Provides exceptional positive customer service.
• Maintains records by entering information into databases, submitting s as required, and recording and filing documents.
• Completes routine general office duties by maintaining a variety of official logs; contacting other departments to obtain or provide pertinent information, typing, filing, and answering general inquiries.
• Ensures vehicle is operational before and during shift. Maintains assigned equipment and supplies. Properly operates heavy duty trucks and safety equipment; properly wears and maintains serviceable issued uniforms and personal safety gear; strictly follows established practices and procedures.
• Ability to cope with job related stress including but not limited to deadlines, customer, supervisory and staff interactions, multi-tasking and high work volumes is required.

Job Requirements:

• Formal Education: Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
• Experience: 0-3 years of experience, 1 year of experience preferred.
• Supervision: Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns or temporary employees.
• Human Collaboration Skills: Work may require providing advice to others outside direct ing relationships on specific problems or general policies. Contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.
• Freedom to Act: Receives Direction: The employee typically performs duty assignments after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures and desired end results, but must be capable of directing his/her own work, implementing response plans as outlined in RSS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and coordinating effectively with internal and external recourses. The assignment is usually reviewed upon completion.
• Technical Skills: Basic: Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
• Budget Responsibility: Job has no budget responsibility.
• Reading: Intermediate – Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college.
• Math: Basic – Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school.
• Writing: Basic – Ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object and/or series of numbers, names and addresses. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school.
• Certification & Other Requirements:
• Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License (Class C) upon hire, and maintain such license throughout employment with NTTA.
• Must be able to pass required pre-employment drug and background screens.
• A Class A CDL preferred, but not required
