We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and driven individual to join our Clinical Engineering Team at North Middlesex Hospital. We are looking to welcome on board an individual who will work in accordance with our values to support the Clinical Engineering service to develop the equipment library. You will set up and manage a Medical Equipment Library service at the Trust and develop the service to support medical equipment utilisation optimisation at the hospital. The post holder will work with Trust staff and linked providers and be responsible for all aspects of Medical Equipment Library service ensuring delivery of services in line with clinical requirements whilst achieving high quality and positive outcomes for service users. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a growing Clinical Engineering service to set up a new Medical Equipment Library service within the Trust. The Medical Equipment Library (MEL) Supervisor will lead, direct and manage the Medical Equipment Library service across the organisation. The post holder will work with Trust staff and linked providers and be responsible for all aspects of Medical Equipment Library service ensuring delivery of services in line with clinical requirements whilst achieving high quality and positive outcomes for service users. The MEL Supervisor will also support the Clinical Engineering service with maintenance and servicing of medical equipment including its contract portfolio. This role requires attention to detail, good time management skills, and excellent communication skills, good analytical skills to support efficient running of the medical equipment library in the Trust. The postholder will be required to partake in all clinical engineering workflows as required.

• Work as part of the Clinical Engineering Team to deliver the medical equipment Library services to the Trust.
• Guided by procedures, library policies, expert advice, mentoring to provide day to day service delivery as well as management of the Medical Equipment Library (MEL) and supervision of the MEL team.
• Responsible for the MEL Team’s data entry into the medical equipment database.
• To ensure a safe and effective standard of MEL service is provided. Lead specifically in the day to day running of the MEL with an emphasis on the review and improvement of MEL processes and practices and the development of MEL staff.
• Liaise with clinical staff to provide medical devices where required.
• Using primarily computerised systems, make accurate equipment utilisation records and other information supporting audit, quality and performance monitoring.
• Assist the MEL staff, routinely and actively participates in the day to day tasks involved in running of the Library and leading the team by example. This involves stepping up during absence.
• Provide assistance and guidance to nursing and other staff in use of medical devices.
• Confirm the information content and integrity of the equipment infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with medical equipment library policies.
• Ensure the MEL service performance is measured as per set targets and KPIs and actively contribute to remaining compliant.
• Liaise with portering staff who cover out of hours service.
• Support the clinical engineering service with medical device contracts
• To perform engineering tasks as part of the Trust’s clinical engineering department, eg PPMs ,corrective maintenance, coordination of contractor’s repairs and servicing.
• Assist the Head of Clinical Engineering with technical projects, with some departmental responsibilities, projects and routine tasks.
• Improve knowledge and experience of clinical procedures and medical devices. Liaise with clinical and technical staff to ensure medical devices are deployed and used safely. Where appropriate contribute to the training of technical, medical and nursing staff and patients in the proper care and effective use of medical devices.
• Portraying a professional image, and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
• To undertake any other duties as appropriate, such as but not restricted to medical device training coordination and training delivery.
• To support the Trust’s medical devices training plan and coordination in accordance with the Trust’s Medical Devices Training Policy.
• Provide data analysis and reports on MEL performance and partake in service improvement exercises.
