Financial Accountant
Role Overview:
The Financial Accountant will be responsible for the administration of the Corporation’s key utility accounts, along with
ensuring the financial system general ledger is maintained in a manner to allow for timely and accurate financial and
management account reporting. Reporting to the Accounting Coordinator, this role carries the challenge and responsibility
for a range of finance related activities whilst providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

Assist in maintaining accounting records in the Corporation’s finance system that facilitate the sound
financial management, ensuring the general ledger is accurate and up to date by posting adjustments
when required.
ï‚·
Enhance wider business engagement of the finance function by liaising with budget managers to monitor
their expenditure budgets and increase their understanding of responsibilities.
ï‚·
Strengthen the Finance team’s ability to provide business wide customer service and continuity by
providing support to the Accounts Payable Officer and Accounting Coordinator.
You get to be accountable for:

Administration of the Corporation’s electricity, fuel, telephone accounts and Corporate credit cards
including monthly analysis, investigations and reporting.
ï‚·
Maintaining the administration of the Corporation’s fleet including Vic Roads, City Link and RACV
accounts as well as monthly expenditure reporting.
ï‚·
Processing general ledger and sub-system journal entries as required to maintain accuracy and integrity
of the general ledger in a timely manner to allow monthly preparation of management account
reporting.
ï‚·
Daily bank reconciliations and daily data importation into the finance system from the customer billing
system.

ï‚·
Monthly reconciliation of balance sheet general ledger accounts to allow for timely preparation of
management account reporting.
ï‚·
Assisting the Accounting Coordinator as required to ensure flexibility within the Finance Unit.
ï‚·
Administering and liaising with relevant government departments for concession claims and charity
rebate claims.
ï‚·
Preparing monthly Business Activity Statements (BAS) and provide assistance on GST related issues.
ï‚·
Liaising with budget managers to monitor expenditure over-runs.
ï‚·
Maintaining the purchase order committal system and conduct order procedure audits.
ï‚·
Assisting with audit responsibilities as required.
ï‚·
Performing the duties of Account Payable Officer as required to ensure flexibility within the Finance unit.
ï‚·
Carrying out any other duties as direct commensurate with the level of skills and nature of the position.
Qualifications & Credentials for Success are:
ï‚·
Formal qualification in Accounting or Business or progression towards completion of degree.
ï‚·
Experience in a financial environment.
ï‚·
Minimum two (2) years’ experience.
ï‚·
Strong knowledge of the current Australian Government Taxation laws surrounding GST (Goods and
Services Tax).
ï‚·
Strong application of computer skills across a range of packages including Microsoft packages with
advanced application of excel.
ï‚·
Drivers License.
