Operations Specialist

Nimbis Services, Inc. is looking for an Operations Specialist to join our Responsive Operations Center (ROC) in the DevSecOps Team in Columbus, Ohio. This is an hourly, non-exempt position. The ROC will provide support for our applications from 8:00am – 8:00pm EST. Therefore, you will be required to work an early or late shift to provide this support.

The ROC is a dynamic group that maintains ownership and responsibility for the operation of customer-facing infrastructure within Nimbis Services. The ROC is a combination of traditional Network Operations Center (NOC), Security Operations Center (SOC) and support functions, but with an emphasis on automation and capturing everything as code. Operations Specialists work to deploy, maintain, and monitor the cloud environment that powers our Trusted Silicon Stratus platform; this includes designing, developing, and implementing new software tools when necessary. This role is the also the first responder for any alerts, inquires, incidents, or issues with our infrastructure and applications. You will assess and triage the situation, communicate your findings to the PlatformOps and DevOps teams, work with these teams to develop solutions, and then deploy those solutions rapidly.

US Citizen Status is required for this position with potential clearance in the future.

What you’ll do:

• Coordinate the release and deployment of software updates – the ROC is the owner of all customer-facing systems at Nimbis.
• Capture new and existing infrastructure as code to enforce the deployment of highly standardized and reproducable cloud environments.
• Write configuration management scripts to ensure the systems and infrastructure within the cloud platform are up to date and conform to any required data governance polices.
• Design and implement new tools and cloud services to enhance our log analysis and cloud monitoring capabilities.
• Participate in process improvement by developing new ways of doing everything and anything – whether it be the way we do planning, code reviews, meetings, etc. Everyone on the DevSecOps team has input on the way we do our work.
• Work to help ensure our infrastructure and operational processes and procedures meet our security and compliance needs. This will include automating system patching and pentesting, Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) hardening, and working with AWS Config and SecurityHub.
• Respond to inquiries, alerts, and incidents meeting Service Level Agreement (SLA) targets, while maintaining regular communication with any affected customers to ensure they are satisfied with the resolution.
• Perform cost-optimization of infrastructure within AWS.
• Be professional, personable, courteous, factual, and empathetic in all customer communications.
• Continuously look for opportunities to improve how we provide service and support to our customers and how we manage and monitor our cloud platform.

What we need:

• Associate Degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology (IT), Computer Programming, or 2-3 years equivalent work experience
• Experience in performing log collection, aggregation, correlation, or analysis to identify failures in production systems
• Experience using compute and storage services (EC2, S3) provided by cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.) to run web infrastructure
• Experience in troubleshooting systemd services, network configuration, and other issues common to Linux webservers
• Experience automating Linux system administration tasks using bash and Python scripts
• Experience with Ansible, Packer, or similar tools to automate build virtual machine images (i.e. Amazon Machine Images)
• Experience writing Terraform or CloudFormation templates to capture infrastructure as code
• Comfortable with clone, commit, push, pull, and branching operations in git
• A cybersecurity-focused mindset

• Excellent time management, organizational, and teamwork skills

What we would like to have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science (CS/CSE), or equivalent.
• Security+ certification, or other DoD 8570.01 baseline certifications
• Cloud and Linux certifications
• Knowledge of object-oriented programming in Python and Python web frameworks (Django, Flask, etc.)
• Experience hardening and configuring Red Hat Enterprise Linux webservers
• Experience in Windows IIS administration using Powershell
• Experience using or administering Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana (ELK) stack for log correlation and analysis
• Experience creating containers and deploying Docker containers or Kubernetes clusters using ECS, EKS, Helm, or other configuration as code.

• Hybrid Work Schedule (3 days in office, 2 days home office) after 6 month training period.
