Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Niagara Region is looking to hire an Employment Inventory Data Intern to assist in the project management and administration of an annual Employment Inventory project from January-December 2020. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate of a related program, who can commit to the entire 12-month work term.
Employment data collected through this project will help to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current employment landscape within Niagara and play a significant role in supporting decisions related to population and employment growth, infrastructure investment and the monitoring of economic conditions and trends.
The intern will be responsible for assisting with the coordination of the survey team while in the field; collecting survey responses from business owners, ensuring appropriate follow-up with survey respondents; performing data quality assurance / quality checks; and, analyzing and reporting data results/trends.
This position is for an 12-month duration (January through December). The first four (4) months will primarily consist of assisting in deployment planning, technical implementation and staff recruiting. The second four (4) month period will consist of assisting in the training of the survey team; conducting face-to-face surveys with business owners and coordinating the survey team deployment strategy. The final four (4) months will primarily consist of performing data quality assurance checks and performing data analysis to inform a report back to Regional Council. This is an excellent opportunity to experience the full project cycle of this important primary data gathering initiative.
This project involves visiting businesses throughout Niagara between May – September and conducting in-person interviews with business owners. The team will primarily compile the inventory results on a handheld mobile device using mobile GIS technology, but will also be required to perform other office duties to support the project.

Incumbent must supply own vehicle/reliable method of transportation, and be able to work both outdoors and in an office setting.
