The Role
Newcastle University is a founding member of the Russell Group with a thriving international community of staff and students from over 140 countries. Our global vision is to excel by being an internationally networked and diverse community of students and staff who identify as global citizens, and who can respond to global challenges through the research we undertake and the skills and knowledge we create. The International Office leads the University’s international relations and partnerships, international student recruitment and global engagement.
Global Opportunities (GO) is one of five teams in the University’s International Office (IO). The GO team develops and manages the frameworks and administration of the University’s global programmes, with the aim to equip our students and staff with the skills to succeed as critical global citizens. The main purpose of the job is to support in the development and implementation of a key initiative of the University’s Global Strategy: Global Education and Community (GE&C).
The Global Education and Community plan recognises not just Newcastle’s positive contribution to the wider world, but also how that wider world, in its complexity, informs our teaching and learning. Global education means understanding that there are different ways of knowing and living in the world. It means openness to difference, being critical and questioning about global norms, and awareness of global inequalities. You will support the development and delivery of this plan, working closely with colleagues across and outside the University.
We are keen to develop our teams and look at how we can support you with your career development with us. You will have access to a range of development opportunities via the University’s Organisational Development Unit. In addition, the International Office is offering staff development conversations and you will be entitled to request a series of sessions from members of the International Office management team during your time in post.
We are keen to hear from people who are highly proactive, able to manage a complex workload and shape this exciting role. If this is you, we are keen to hear from you. We are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements and can offer hybrid working of on site and at home for this role.
This a great opportunity for a graduate who is looking for their first career step. We also see this as an internal development opportunity for colleagues looking for secondment opportunities.
This post is offered on a fixed-term basis for 12 months.
