Salary: £42,149 – £44,706 (with progression to £50,296)

The Role
The School of Engineering is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Education Manager (Accreditation and Educational Reform) to join its Education team. This is an exciting and challenging role, responsible for the development and implementation of School strategy on all educational reform activities, including oversight and management of professional accreditations.
You will work in partnership with key colleagues of the Faculty and School Executive Board, project managing curriculum/programme review and accreditation activities, taking into account industry and professional body opportunities and expectations, student experience, quality assurance and existing education processes and procedures in the School. You will be a key member of the School Education community, working closely with other Education managers and teams, sharing good practice and supporting consistent approaches.
You will be a proactive, innovative and highly organised individual, with evidence of successful development and implementation of policy, procedure and change processes. You will have a strong commitment to sharing best practice in a culture of continuous improvement, in addition to excellent interpersonal skills. You will have demonstrable experience of building effective working relationships with academic and professional service stakeholders and senior management. You will be a graduate (or equivalent) with significant experience of working in an education environment, with a thorough knowledge and understanding of quality assurance and enhancement standards and practice in Higher Education institutions.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
To work in partnership with key members of Faculty and School Executive Boards on the development and implementation of School academic vision and strategy, by leading on and project managing all educational reform activity across the School. To ensure the Schools commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is embedded in decision making processes and reflected in plans. To be responsible for the development, delivery and embedding of procedures and plans in change management to enable informed decision making in the School’s strategic planning process. This will include, but is not limited to, people planning, infrastructure planning, programmes, teaching content and methods of delivery.
To develop, lead, manage, implement and deliver project plans, taking responsibility for a number of major work strands at any one time and planning over the short, medium and longer term. To plan and schedule timelines in consultation with all stakeholders and, where necessary, broker solutions to keep the project to time and cost.
To offer high level support and coordination to meetings, managing any budgets and follow up actions and ensuring excellent communication with appropriate teams and individuals. To work proactively with all accrediting bodies, ensuring an excellent working relationship is established and sustained, and that we maintain current knowledge to respond to allof the evolving accreditation criteria. Contributing to current thinking and new developments within accreditation networks and peer institutions, both nationally and internationally so that the School is at the forefront of knowledge exchange. To provide high levels of expertise and work closely with academic colleagues leading on accreditation. To be responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining all management processes for co-ordinating the various accreditation activities in the School. To manage the compilation of the School’s accreditation reports including collecting and interpreting various large, complex datasets. Making recommendations for accreditations/re-accreditations as appropriate and highlighting any issues and areas of concern to School Executive Board. Monitoring the actions from reports with responsibility for ensuring that actions are carried out and reported via the appropriate reporting mechanism e.g. SEB, Boards of studies To carry out other duties, as defined by line manager, which support the successful achievement of School vision and strategy
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
Knowledge and understanding of the Higher Education sector, certainly including education policies and processes but ideally including experience of managing accreditation processes
Has the ability to see the “big picture”, to think strategically and to manage complex problems and issues
Proven ability to establish, review and monitor data/administrative systems, including those for tracking targets and managing performance feedback
Excellent communication skills, including analytical report writing, with the ability to tailor communication style to the audience
Critical thinking and active problem solving skills
Excellent planning and organising
Must have excellent influencing and conflict management skills to facilitate changes in behaviour and direction at both a strategic and operational level
Has proven ability in using initiative to think strategically and contribute to policy debates
A positive “gets things done approach” with the ability to be decisive and take action when required
Has experience of working collaboratively in a matrix organisation at a senior level
Has proven experience in strategic planning and change management
Has experience of both supporting and leading committees and meetings
Has experience of leading a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion
