Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President, Global Programs Fiscal Affairs & Administration, and with technical direction by the Global HR Business Partner, this position serves not only as client account manager to ensure the effective delivery of a full range and scope of human resource services but also serves as a trusted advisor on sensitive and/or critical issues that pertain to people and related matters, including employee relations; organizational and workforce planning, job design, and change management; performance and career planning management; compensation and pay strategies; employee coaching and development strategies; guidance on collective bargaining agreements and other legal and policy considerations.
The incumbent will assist primarily NYU’s operations in London and Paris, and secondarily other NYU sites as needed, on Human resource matters including in their dealings with employee representation bodies. This position is based in Europe at one of the established NYU locations (preferably NYU London).
This job will have a hybrid work responsibility with a combination of in-office 20% and work from home 80%, as needed. This job may also require travel between NY’s global academic centers in Europe (London, Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Prague and Florence)
Principal duties and responsibilities
HR STRATEGIES: Provide strategic direction, guidance, and collective bargaining agreement administration. Develop long-term objectives supported by shorter-term action plans for program service delivery. Ensure compliance with NYU policy and procedure and adherence to local laws governing employment practices. Discuss with NYU leadership performance of all staff, including review of the teaching hours of lecturers to optimize timetables, and recommend strategies. [20%]
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS: Prepare for and lead NYU management participation in work councils and other labor/management meetings as necessary. Keep appropriate NYU leadership updated in a timely fashion on all labor matters. Partner with University HR in NY, OGC (Office of General Counsel), and/or OEO (Office of Equal Opportunity) to manage employee relations issues, including workplace investigations related to employee claims, and advise leadership. Ensure compliance with appropriate labor regulations and country-specific legislation. Address occupational medicine matters and
collaborate with the occupational doctor as needed. [15%]
HR PROCESSING: Facilitate and manage strategic HR projects, processes, and programs, such as employee leaves, succession planning, annual merit increase, performance management, department/organizational reorganizations, and training/development programs, in alignment with NYU practices, organizational goals, and objectives. Facilitate organizational planning and/or career mobility by supporting the creation or modification of critical positions and following appropriate Compensation and related processes. Ensure HR practices adhere to University priorities such as affordability, diversity, and sustainability. This includes adopting appropriate practices in job design/development, organizational structure, compensation, recruitment, hiring, performance assessment, employee relations, professional development, and separation that embrace these priorities.
Design and conduct workshops and training opportunities for staff and management as necessary.[15%]
COMPENSATION AND HR RECORDS: Analyze internal and external salary data, recommend salaries to ensure competitiveness with market or equitable salary relationships within the unit, and consult and negotiate with NYU Compensation on salary and classification requests to meet OGP’s staffing and compensation goals. Lead change initiatives and implement specific HR strategies to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
Maintain appropriate HR records on all staff including validation of endorsements for lecturers according to their teaching schedules, questioning of mutual memberships, providence, etc. Sign all letters for staff (various certificates, partial activity letters, the extension of the trial period, etc.). [10%]
RECRUITMENT: Liaise with the NYU Talent Management team in NY to post positions, attract, hire and retain candidates. Participate in recruitment (meeting with potential recruitment firms, negotiation of firm contracts, proofreading of job descriptions, discussion of candidates and the manager, proofreading of offers, proofreading of contracts, etc.) Support and develop line managers in driving performance culture through coaching, facilitating talent assessments. [20%]
HR ASSISTANCE: Provide advice and counsel to other NYU Global Away sites on HR matters. Assist as necessary with employee relations matters including possible investigations. [20%]
Qualifications:
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree / Bac + 4
Preferred Education
Bachelor’s degree in hr/ law/psychology or related field.
Required Experience
A minimum of 5 years related work experience ·
Required Experience, Skills and Abilities
Full proficiency in French and English language.
Knowledge of French and British Employment and Labor laws is essential (compliance issues, works councils, social reports)
Experienced in managing employee relations (grievances, disciplinary actions)
Understanding of Core HR Processes like Performance Management, Career Development, Compensation & Benefits, Employee Engagement and Retention, Reward & Recognition and Talent Management and Succession Planning.
Awareness of Industry trends and best practices.
Experienced in utilizing analytics to understand trends and drive business decisions and align HR priorities Language
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in high-stress situations.
Ability to work with managers and employees remotely, by leveraging different communication and collaboration channels.
Ability to assess situations and identify appropriate responses effectively and efficiently
Experience in training delivery and in participating in hr/employee relations projects.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of other EU Employment and Labor laws (Italy, Germany, Spain) compliance issues, works councils, social reports
Fluency in English and French
