Necessary Skill Set

Familiarity with Long Haul Freight brokering/booking

Strong communication skills

• Ability to communicate with carriers via email AND Verbally as needed

Buying/Negotiation Experience

• Experience doing negotiations for better pricing (rates)
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and timed requirements effectively and independently.
• Able to recognize problems and present solutions to problems.

Job Duties

Book Freight

• Source freight carriers for all loads in Export Trading Division
• Prepare load sheets and send to carriers
• Attaches freight info sheet to the purchase order
• Inputs freight portion into Sage, onto the truck status board and incoming load schedule

Track Freight

• Updates all loads, every morning, with an update as to where they are, if loaded etc
• Update loads through out the day for all loads on the road.

Manage Ocean Transloads

• Request ocean containers
• Confirm booking appointments
• Claim Terminal Handling Fee
• Manage loading/movement – day of transload

 Confirm container is on the way

 Communicate with Nuevo team

 Confirm container is back to the port

Troubleshoot/Problem Solve

• Trouble shoots any load problems – not getting loaded, case count discrepancy, po # problems, truck breakdown etc
• Communicate issues to management team/fellow team members

Insurance

• Gets updated insurance on all freight carriers and maintains insurance files

Source New Carriers

• Work to source new potential carriers

 Find new carriers and confirm their insurance requirements

 Test carriers on non-critical loads to see if they will work for our loads

Maintain competitive freight amounts

• Constantly work for best possible rates

 Be aware of market conditions – changing seasons, DOT weeks

 Negotiate the most competitive rates possible
