The role: Senior Application Software Engineer
The Senior Application Software Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining our surgical planning tools, the user interface of our robot, and the functionality that constitutes the core of the software on the robot. This includes 2D and 3D anatomical reconstruction, visualization and manipulation, algorithms that map robot actions into real-world space, and all of the functionality that guides the surgery. Your UI, graphics and algorithm expertise will be used to display complex medical images and information, automatically find morphology in CT images, and much more. You will work with other world-class software, hardware, electronics, and mechanical design engineers.
What you’ll do:
- Create innovative solutions to meet our company’s technical needs
- Design, code, and debug new and existing UI and application software
- Write well-designed, testable code and unit tests for that code
- Maintain, upgrade, and improve the performance of existing application software
- Perform design and code reviews of code developed by your peers
- Generate and execute test protocols and create test s
- Investigate software-related complaints and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal software performance
What you’ll bring:
- BS or higher degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field
- 3 to 15 years of strong experience in object-oriented software design and implementation.
- Expert-level coding skills
- Deep understanding of computer science and OO programming concepts
- Very strong software design and architecture skills
- Strong skills in user interface design for software applications
- Extensive experience with computer graphics, linear algebra, and image visualization concepts
- Extensive experience with documenting and testing software applications
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to manage uncertainty, push the limits, and think like an owner
- Extensive experience mentoring junior developers
Bonus round!
- Experience with VTK/ITK or other visualization libraries
- Familiar with CT scan images and DICOM protocol standards
- Experience with computer vision, image processing or machine learning
- Experience with robot control, including FK and IK technologies
- Familiarity with agile methodologies
- Experience with medical device software
- Familiarity with FDA regulations
