We are recruiting a Financial Accountant to lead and manage the financial accounting provision for NatureScot including the Transactions Team and to play a key role in managing our relationship with Scottish Government. This will include being the lead for technical accounting input culminating in the production of the annual report and accounts. This is a fantastic opportunity to support colleagues across the organisation as we address the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss.
Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will be responsible for the provision of an efficient and effective financial accounting function as well as the provision of technical accounting advice to the business. This will include being project lead on the annual financial accounts project, the provision of whole government accounts and implementing new or revised accounting standards as required. The post holder will liaise with Scottish Government Sponsor and Finance teams, monitoring NatureScot Grant-in-Aid, reviewing monthly budget reconciliation returns, and co-ordinating other reporting, as requested.
The role also oversees the provision of transaction services, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash management. It involves managing a team of professional Finance staff and an approachable leadership style is therefore required along with the ability to coach and mentor team members in their development.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, proven analytical and technical skills and a positive, solutions orientated approach to work.
We are Scotland’s nature agency. Scotland’s nature and landscapes are among our greatest assets. Nature gives us food and drinking water, energy, and timber. It contributes to a clean and healthy environment. And it improves our well-being and quality of life. We work to improve our natural environment in Scotland and inspire everyone to care more about it. So that all nature in Scotland – our key habitats and landscapes, all our green space and our native species – is maintained, enhanced, and brings us benefits.
Nature is vital to all of us, so it is vital that we are an organisation for all of Scotland. The more diverse NatureScot is, the better we will be in connecting everyone with nature. We particularly encourage applications from people from Minority Ethnic (ME) backgrounds and people with a disability.
