Job Description: Renewable Energy Construction Project Manager
Employment: Full-time

Natural Forces Solar is a turnkey engineering, procurement & construction company specializing in the deployment of renewable energy systems. We are based in Dartmouth, NS and work on projects across Canada, the northeast US, and the Caribbean. We are seeking to add a Project Manager to our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for renewable energy and will support our growing business by managing the engineering, procurement, and construction of new renewable energy systems. The position will involve any of the following:
Design Management
· Understanding the broad principals of electrical, civil and structural engineering including knowledge regarding the relevant IEC, cUL, & CSA standards.
· Working with Natural Forces Solar’s design team, third party engineering consultants, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure the timely preparation & submission of engineering drawing packages and shop drawings
· Value engineering based on project requirements, restrictions, & client preferences
Permitting & Approvals
· Identifying & understanding existing regulations and zoning policies in various jurisdictions
· Managing the preparation, submission, and processing of grid interconnection applications and municipal building & development permit applications
Project Planning
· Preparing project safety plans & ensuring all project stakeholders fully understand project safety requirements
· Prepare project budgets, work breakdown structures, responsibility matrices, & schedules
· Analyzing factors that can influence project costs, schedule, quality, and risk
· Preparing & distributing solicitation documents to consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors
· Preparing construction & procurement contracts, supplemental conditions, and other necessary commercial schedules
· Evaluating subcontractor quotations against solicitation documents
· Leading negotiations & contract clarifications
Client Relations
· Reviewing & discussing technical submission and project plans with clients to ensure that their requirements are met
· Discuss costs & benefits of options with clients in a clear & concise manner
· Providing regular updates to clients during the planning & execution phases of their projects
Procurement Management
· Working alongside Natural Forces Solar’s Operations team to ensure the timely delivery of shipments to project sites
· Ensuring shipments are inspected upon arrival to the project site to ensure materials are present & in good condition
Construction Management
· Managing subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule and on budget
· Managing Natural Forces Solar’s installation crews and third-party subcontractors to ensure systems are installed according to manufacturer’s and engineer’s specifications
· Completing job-site set-up, site safety orientations, and toolbox talks, as required
· Completing on-site quality & safety audits and problem solving, as required
· Coordinate commissioning and closeout activities on site
Other duties:
· Updating project budgets periodically to provide current committed costs as well as forecasted final costs
· Ensuring project schedules are updated with relevant information
· Preparing and submitting invoices to clients based on progress or milestones
· Attending monthly JOHS Committee meetings and providing feedback to Natural Forces Solar’s Safety coordinator
· Maintaining and enhancing Natural Forces Solar’s robust commitments to safety and strong safety culture
· Providing regular updates to Natural Forces Solar Management during the planning & deployment phases of projects
· Employing continuous improvement best practices to provide relevant feedback to other Natural Forces Solar team members on topics such as design, component selection, subcontractor performance, scheduling, etc.
· Assisting Natural Forces Solar’s Design team by staying up to date on new renewable energy products and technologies that are entering the market and helping to determine if they are appropriate for upcoming projects
Requirements/asset for the position
· Requirements:
o High-school diploma
o Minimum 3 years of professional experience in the construction industry
o Minimum 2 years of construction contracting experience
o Strong communication skills
o Ability to continuously learn & understand new technologies
o Previous experience with interpreting engineering drawings
o Highly organized
o Attention to detail
o Autonomous work with minimal supervision
o Able to travel regularly within Canada, the northeast US, and the Caribbean
· Assets:
o University degree or college diploma in science, engineering, technology, construction management, or other relevant fields
o Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer designation, or similar
o Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, or similar
o Proficiency with technical & renewable energy specific software (CAD, PVSyst, PVWatts, Helioscope, Aurora, ESyst, ESVT, etc.)
o Proficiency with scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera P6, etc.)
o Previous experience working in the renewable energy and/or conventional power generation sectors
o Previous experience working with First Nations
Remuneration
· Annual salary of $55,000 – 65,000, to be based on the candidate’s previous experience & qualifications
· Annual bonus of up to 10% of base salary, to be based on candidate’s performance throughout the year
