  • Financial Controller for the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS)
  • Permanent full-time opportunity
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $151,563 to $168,085 + super

The most exciting accounting/finance role in Australia! Use your accounting and finance skills to help protect the most important natural assets in NSW – from the peaks of Mt Kosciuszko and the towering forests along the Great Dividing Range to our spectacular coastal reserves and outback national parks. You will be the envy of all your accounting friends!
As Financial Controller, you will organise, analyse and present financial data that is critical to decisions about the management of the national park estate. With assets of over $4 billion and an annual budget (OpEx and Capex) of over $0.5 billion, this is a substantial role with high level accountabilities:
  • Overseeing the development and management of annual activity-based budgets
  • Tracking and forecasting income and expenditure and generating financial analysis for management
  • Contributing to the development of an innovative framework measuring ecological return on investment by linking the cost of key activities – fire management, feral animal control etc – with relevant conservation outcomes.
  • Leading the management of NPWS’s statutory deposit account
  • Working with colleagues in Government, including Treasury, to ensure compliance /reporting requirements are met and in developing future budget bids.

About You
You will be passionate about our mission and motivated to ensure NPWS is positioned as a global leader in protected area management. Your high level financial/accounting skills will ensure sound financial management drives better conservation outcomes in our national parks. You must demonstrate a track record of achievement in your career, delivering organisational or government objectives and strong returns (social, ecological, economic) on investment.
You will have the skills and experience needed to lead a high performing team, often through complex operating, regulatory and budget environments. You will be capable of leading internal budget reform projects, navigating government budget processes and using digital technology to improve decision making.
You will immerse yourself in the detail of a complex budget while also forming high-level, accurate, and articulate financial advice for senior management. You can work closely with a shared service provider to ensure high quality delivery of financial services.
Essential Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and professional membership of CPA/CA.
