JOB TITLE: Director of Marketing & Communications

I. SUMMARY:
The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for planning, budgeting, directing, and overseeing the NMB’s omnichannel marketing, communications, and public relations programs in the areas of consumer, nutrition, retail, and foodservice. Manages NMB marketing staff, agencies, vendors, consultants, and collaborates with the NMB management team, to maximize the efficiency of the yearly budget and fulfill the NMB’s mission of increasing mango awareness and consumption in the U.S.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
A. Directs all consumer marketing initiatives, including status calls, reviewing materials developed by the marketing and public relations (PR) agencies and partners, travel to and participation in marketing and industry events, and oversees the nutrition marketing and consumer research projects.
B. Manages the nutrition related agencies and vendors to improve the effectiveness of the nutrition PR and marketing programs, including planning programs, attending events, and editing materials.
C. Oversees the retail marketing program, including account management, project management, promotion allocation budgets, fulfillment of promotions (payment), retail s, collateral, regional trade shows, meetings, and category development.
D. Directs foodservice marketing and public relations (PR) program, including agency accounts, trade shows, and the promotion of the NMB at foodservice industry events.
E. Oversees all digital and online marketing and communications initiatives including the NMB websites and social media channels. Directs newsletters, press releases, and the annual . Works with the other NMB directors to develop and update the organization’s crisis communications program and manual, manages team trainings and execution should a crisis arise.
F. Directs the planning and budgeting process for the following year’s marketing and communications program; overlays the strategic plan objectives with each program area, setting program budgets based on available funds and working closely with agencies on the development of a menu of programs to meet NMB goals.
G. Provides insights and support to the Director of Research & Industry Relations on a variety of projects, including monthly consumer panel data study, program evaluation model, and nutrition research projects.
H. Prepares and participates in NMB meetings, committee meetings, video conference calls, New Board Member Orientation meeting, and the Foreign Mango Organization meeting each year. This includes developing and managing marketing presentations, budgets, agendas, and minutes. Leads and participates in weekly staff meetings.
I. Manages the NMB brand and utilization. Responsible for making sure NMB promotional and educational materials, and marketing communications are reviewed and meet the requirements and standards set by USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service.
J. Fulfills business and administrative requirements, such as negotiating and finalizing agreements and work plans, processing invoices, reviewing financial statements, preparing expense s, and planning travel.
K. Plans, directs, and coordinates the work of the NMB marketing team and conducts performance appraisals.

III. QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education & Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, sales or a related field, with a minimum of 15 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master’s degree in business administration, or a related graduate degree is highly desirable.
2. Work history of progressively responsible marketing and communications experience involving a variety of campaigns, trade shows, and promotional resources. Marketing experience involving digital, CPG, retail, agriculture commodities, USDA programs, or not-for-profit organizations is highly desirable.
3. Knowledge and experience in the principles and practices of retail and product marketing; budgeting practices; visual design principles; production and printing concepts; consumer demand principles; branding practices; digital marketing principles, website and social media practices; trade show marketing practices; communications strategies; and customer service practices.
4. Experience in developing effective marketing and PR campaigns, and consumer outreach programs; reading, analyzing, and interpreting consumer trend information and s; planning, organizing, and prioritizing tasks to meet project and program deadlines; exercising judgment and applying effective problem solving techniques; and preparing and presenting sound recommendations.
B. Communication & Language Skills:
1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
2. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques and style. Make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
3. Proficiency in conversational Spanish as a second language within two years of assignment to this position is needed.
C. Technical & Computer Skills:
1. Fluent proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
2. Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) programs, preferably Salesforce; presentation programs such as Prezi; and project management software is highly desirable.
D. Travel Requisites:
1. Ability to travel both domestic and international. Valid U.S. Passport or travel document is required.
2. Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under NMB vehicle insurance standards.
E. Other Required Abilities, Skills & Experience:

2. Ability to work extended hours and attend meetings, trade shows, conferences, board meetings, and educational programs as needed.

V. SUPERVISORY RESPONSABILITIES:
A. Directly supervises 5 employees in the Marketing & Communications Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
B. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues that arise.
VI. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
A. Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity to operate computer hardware and office equipment.
B. Frequently required to sit and to occasionally stand and walk to access office areas and meeting locations.
C. Occasionally lifts/carries s, files, and records, typically weighing less than 10 lbs.
D. Specific vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Other sensory demands include hearing and speaking with others.
E. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
F. The NMB follows a hybrid work schedule, with employees working from the NMB office, home, or off-site as needed. For the 2023 calendar year, new employees are expected to work from the NMB office five days per week during the first and second month of employment; four days per week in the office during the third and fourth month of employment; three days per week in the office during the fifth and sixth month of employment; and then at least two days per week in the office after the sixth month at the NMB. The policy is subject to change depending on internal and external factors.
