The position
The National Gallery is seeking an experienced human resource (HR) professional to join our
small HR team to deliver recruitment, payroll and other HR services to the National Gallery. The
HR Officer is an integral part of the HR team. As a member of the team in a small agency, you
will be given the opportunity to contribute your expertise to practices, policies and processes that
will positively shape the future of the National Gallery.
This is a full-time, ongoing employment opportunity.

The HR team in the CFO Portfolio is responsible for the delivery of the full range of human
resource services and practices to equip our employees to meet immediate and emerging
challenges. The HR team works collaboratively across the National Gallery to implement
people-focused solutions that enable and support the National Gallery’s vision and objectives.

Overview of the role
The National Gallery is seeking an experienced human resource (HR) professional to join our
small HR team to deliver recruitment, payroll and other HR services to the National Gallery. The
HR Officer is an integral part of the HR team. As a member of the team in a small agency, you
will be given the opportunity to contribute your expertise to practices, policies and processes that
will positively shape the future of the National Gallery.
Our ideal candidate
Our ideal candidate will be an HR generalist with experience in recruitment and/or payroll who
will help us deliver initiatives across a range of HR areas. You must operate to the highest ethical
standards, demonstrating integrity in all that you do. Your willingness to learn from mistakes and
be accountable for your work form part of who you are.
Working in a team is important to you and you collaborate effectively with your colleagues. You
are client-focused and will use your expertise to provide accurate advice and support to managers
and employees with empathy and tact.
Your highly developed organisational skills, sound oral and written communication skills, ability
to prioritise and excellent attention to detail will ensure you can operate in our high tempo and
ever-changing environment.
What will you do?
In accordance with the APS5 Work Level Standards, and with the support of the Manager,
HR Operations, you will:
1. Partner with line areas to provide expert, solutions-focused, legislatively compliant and
contemporary HR advice on a range of HR functions including Recruitment and Payroll.
2. Manage the day to day recruitment process including:
Senior Executive level about best practice recruitment processes
Panels
3. Provide accurate advice to employees about their pay, conditions and entitlements, in line
with the Enterprise Agreement.
4. Process pay and entitlements in Aurion accurately and meet fortnightly pay deadlines.
5. Contribute to team planning and continuous business improvement to ensure a high quality,
efficient and effective HR service is delivered for the National Gallery.

We are seeking candidates who are outcomes driven, accountable and have experience in HR. To
be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate, or have the potential to develop, the
following:
1. Versatility and flexibility to align your work with the strategic priorities of the
National Gallery by identifying and managing complex HR matters with contemporary
HR solutions.
2. Providing accurate advice and education to clients on a variety of HR topics to achieve
results.
3. The ability to communicate with influence, including listening actively and clearly
articulating your message in oral and written forms, so as to provide a high quality client
service experience.
4. The ability to act with integrity, showing accountability, judgement and
professionalism.
