The Director of Prevention Education will lead a team and be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive set of programs designed to diagnose and prevent HIV, link people living with HIV (PLWHA) to care and support services with a focus on trauma-informed care principles. Services provided by this program are designed to increase awareness of prevention strategies, promote access to testing and treatment, and link individuals to appropriate care, all in an effort to improve health outcomes and reduce disease transmission and to achieve our mission of ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Middle Tennessee.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Oversee, monitor, audit and evaluate testing programs with a focus on service standardization between CARES two primary service locations.
• Supervise and lead Prevention team.
• Assess community health needs to focus HIV Prevention efforts on target populations.
• Hire, supervise, coach and train program managers and other staff members and volunteers.
• Work with program directors to ensure programs are effective, sustainable, achieve the desired impact, and are aligned with the organization’s overall mission and priorities.
• Oversee evaluation and data management practices.
• Contribute to strategic planning efforts across the organization, developing written plans and goals, and helping to drive multi-layer strategies from planning to implementation.
• Ensure all funded and unfunded programs follow established standards and frameworks, including work plans, budgets, project organization, communication, change management and performance.
• Resolve problems and ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
• Develop and maintain policies and procedures consistent with the provision of services in an exceptional, and professional manner to assure barriers to access and use of services are minimal.
• Participate in the development, writing and monitoring of grants and prepare reports for funders.
• Consult and collaborate with other organizations providing HIV and community support related services.
• Ensure other departments are informed on principles and practical application of trauma informed care and operate through this lens.
• Work with staff across the agency to ensure consistent communication, standard of treatment and care, and client outcomes are provided efficiently.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in social or public health services setting.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in infection prevention or disease surveillance in a public health or social services setting.
• HIV/STI programming experience.
• Ability to lead and facilitate multi-disciplinary teams.
• Strong organizational, administrative, and project coordination skills, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
• Able to both independently and collaboratively solve problems, make decisions, support change, exercise sound judgement, ask questions, and be open to the input and decisions of others.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners
• Ability to work with managers and staff to identify training needs and research information for training/meeting opportunities and to develop outreach materials.
• Demonstrated communication and presentation skills.
• Excellent people manager, open to direction, suggestions and commitment to get the job done.
• Computer literate, ability to learn and utilize computer software programs especially Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
• Experience in contract and grant management and in developing/managing budgets and funding proposals.
• Current driver’s license, clean DMV record and vehicle liability insurance.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Extensive HIV knowledge and experience, as well as experience with customer service, and working with PLWHA.
• HIV Counseling & Testing certification and experience in HIV and STD surveillance activities.
