The mission of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Chicago is to provide hope and improve the quality of life for those whose lives are affected by mental illness. Who We Are Looking For:?

The Chief of Staff (COS) works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operating Officer as well as the Executive Leadership Team to support NAMI Chicago’s mission by supporting external affairs, optimizing agency operations, leading internal communications and ensuring proper administration is executed, including detailed management of agency standard operating procedures. The COS is the primary person responsible for management and execution of strategic priorities and partners closely with the CEO and COO on special projects – including policy initiatives, PR opportunities and internal communications. The ideal candidate is an experienced executive leader with ample operations experience in a complex and matrixed social service agency.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Contribute to the executive leadership team through thought-partnership, analysis and ownership of special projects
• Translate executive-level priorities and strategies to the broader NAMI Chicago staff; establish an internal communications plan for robust and transparent information-sharing
• Support the CEO as an external deputy responsible for cultivating external relationships to support organizational sustainability and funding
• Support the COO as an internal deputy in overseeing operational administration and compliance in alignment with program priorities, as well as certifying and accrediting bodies
• Work with finance and operations team to manage project workflow; oversee day-to-day milestones for special projects sponsored by the CEO and/or COO
• Assess gaps in operations, programs, strategy and finance and implement aligned solutions, in partnership with CEO, COO and other leaders
• In partnership with NAMI Chicago executive leadership, analyze revenue and expenses and make recommendations to best manage budget utilization and cash flow
• Compile s as needed for executive leadership and board committees
• Participate in the NAMI Chicago Executive Leadership Team

Operations & Administration

• Develop and codify organizational standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support NAMI Chicago’s certification and accreditation as an agency, and for specific programs
• Establish and manage systems for quarterly and annual SOP review
• Determine manager training and support for SOP compliance, in partnership with Program and People Experience leaders
• Oversee all organizational compliance related to government grants and contracts
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelors degree required; Masters Degree preferred in business, management, finance, accounting or related field.
• 15+ years of experience working in non-profit operations; with progressive management and leadership responsibilities
• Computer Skills: Proficiency Microsoft Office 365; Windows operating systems; and other software routinely used by NAMI Chicago?
