Summary GENERAL SUMMARY : Sorts and distributes s, performs data entry, files, retrieves pathology specimens. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : (10%)* Applies knowledge of medical language to assist the pathologists with data entry and retrieval in the laboratory and hospital information systems.

20%)* Assists the laboratory department with billing procedures. Registers specimens and monitors assigned EPIC work queues.

Enters patient charges Requests payment for material released. (20%) Distribute and retrieve s Sort and distribution of laboratory s to authorized areas within the guidelines of Hospital and laboratory policies.

Distribute copies to Tumor Registry, HIS and the pathologist billing company (When necessary). Enter and retrieve surgical, cytology, and other s as necessary, using the laboratory and hospital information systems.

50%)* Assist the Laboratory Department, primarily Anatomic Pathology with clerical duties, including pathology specimen retrieval and preparation for consultation.

Manage phone communication. Release information within the guidelines of Hospital / Laboratory policies. Type confidential information.

Transcribe and send letters to facilities, Physicians and Attorneys. Secure, open and distribute mail. Retrieve and mail blocks, slides, and s to other facilities at the request of the physician.

Retrieve ER / PR and outside s for distribution to the Pathologists for review during diagnostic procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS : Organization skills, manual dexterity, customer service skills, communication skills, teamwork skills, and computer skills are required.

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and / or physiology as acquired through continuing education preferred. Two years of experience working in a Clinical Laboratory preferred.

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrates patient / customer focused communication. REQUIRED EDUCATION : High School Diploma or GED PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS : Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit / stand / walk for long periods of time.

May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.

Must follow MidMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
