Junior Developer: six month placement via the Governments KickStart Scheme

My Pickle CIC (‘My Pickle’) is an award-winning platform helping anyone in the UK facing crisis to find support at mypickle.org. We do this by gathering, vetting and signposting to national resources such as helplines. With a large database of support resources gathered and vetted by volunteers across the UK, we are looking to grow and develop this into new commercial offerings as a social enterprise.

The successful candidate will help:

• Grow and develop mypickle.org to help more people in the UK find help fast
• Create and maintain two new commercial offerings to scale social impact and become a sustainable social enterprise, including an API and a new website.

The successful candidate will have a passion for developing and will help with the following responsibilities and activities:

• Assist with creation, testing and maintenance of backend and front-end development, including creating WordPress themes and plug-ins

• Maintain the API which is currently being developed by a volunteer, making agreed updates and helping to resolve queries from My Pickle API clients

• Monitor and review user feedback and analytics to identify and remediate bugs or to suggest improvements

• Create and maintain software documentation

• Collaborate with the CEO, volunteers and other stakeholders to identify and act on opportunities for new offerings and new or improved features on existing offerings

• Provide input to the technical roadmap, including highlighting potential risks and opportunities

• Regularly report progress to the CEO and Product Council or Board as required

• Ensure high-performance and availability, helping to remediate technical issues

This is a six-month placement as part of the Government’s Kickstart scheme. Applications are welcome from candidates who meets the Kickstart Scheme criteria:

• Currently receiving Universal Credit and aged 16 to 24
• Have an Introduction ID of be able to obtain one from your Work Coach

This is a remote-working role and applications welcome from across the UK. For candidates in Glasgow, a workspace facility may be made available to work alongside the CEO – this is dependant on covid restrictions and likely to be in close proximity to Glasgow city centre.
