ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage relationships with external manufacturing facilities. Factory facilities include both contract manufacturing PCBA and mechanical assembly, plus key manufacturing of custom components such as plastic molded or die cast components, PCB blanks, etc.:
Evaluate overall performance, including quality, cost, delivery, management strength, technical capabilities, etc.
Make changes to relationships as required to meet strategic needs such as geopolitical diversity, manufacturing process requirements, or capacity: identify and develop new factories, discontinue relationships with existing factories, allocate production requirements among factories, etc.
Assist and encourage factories to implement manufacturing improvements and/or best practices.
Ensure effective implementation of new product designs and design changes.
Ensure that key factories comply with company policies, and with legal, EHS and other requirements.
Ensure that company-owned and customer-owned tooling, fixtures and equipment are controlled, maintained and improved as required to meet quality, cost and delivery needs.
Work with the Engineering team to ensure that new product designs can be manufactured with required quality and cost; work with the Engineering team to identify and implement manufacturing-related design changes for continuous improvement:
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in quality, cost and delivery through improved manufacturing, testing or component cost; initiate and coordinate implementation with other departments (Test/Quality Eng., Design Eng.).
Develop and manage the manufacturing staff in MT offices and technical liaisons in the field as needed to meet the above requirements.
In support of the above Essential Duties and Responsibilities, Sr. Director of Manufacturing will:
Act as liaison between the various management levels and employees regarding communications, decisions, and policies.
Develop and cultivate strong working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
Direct and coordinate various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g. introductions of new products or processes; relocation of production between factories).
Stay abreast of new manufacturing processes, equipment and technologies and make recommendations to senior management.
Develop, monitor, and continuously evolve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as established for each operational unit.
Establish performance objectives for all direct reports and manage their performance to these objectives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
10+ years of experience in electronics manufacturing management, including significant shop floor experience.
Minimum 5 years of direct experience dealing with electronics CM in non-N.Am. countries (i.e. one or more of China, Vietnam, Taiwan, Mexico, Malaysia, etc.), including travel to factory locations.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Working knowledge of PCB layout and electronic schematics.
Ability to travel internationally, approximately 10-15% of the time.
Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work well with others.
Additional qualifications, while not mandatory, will be helpful in achieving success in this role:
Experience as a user of ERP.
Experience with Lean/Six Sigma or similar methodology.
