Our client are a start-up joint venture business, specifically created to design, construct and deliver a new low carbon power solution harnessing nuclear technology.

Job Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer – Capability Acquisition will be primarily responsible for devising, developing and implementing new manufacturing capabilities for the business.  Capability in this context means all aspects of technology, methods and processes needed for the manufacture and assembly of large pressure vessels, mechanical and electrical process plant, containment structures and civil constructions required to deliver a new nuclear power station

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced and well-motivated manufacturing engineer to join a team within a fledgling organisation setting up new manufacturing capability in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, optimise and improve manufacturing methods and processes that are capable of meeting required HSE, quality, flexibility, delivery, cost and innovation factors
• Define the technical scope, delivery and governance elements of multi-discipline projects, including their strategic relevance and business justification             
• Capture, analyse and use data to demonstrate project milestones and objectives are achieved, in line with agreed programme requirements.
• Work with stakeholders (integrated teams, specialists, partners, suppliers, etc,) to ensure technical and business aspects of projects are understood and accounted for, and risks are mitigated appropriately
• Build-in value engineering through the application of pragmatic and proportionate solutions, and apply knowledge to resolve emergent issues efficiently and effectively
• Manage and maintain workfiles, databases, etc, to capture and control project information, including the status of activities, decisions made, revisions and closure
• Compile manufacturing readiness evidence packs in line with agreed criteria, and organise formal reviews to substantiate project findings and conclusions
• Assure intellectual property and classified data are being managed appropriately (i.e. export control classifications, 3rd party screening, etc.,)
• Identify, capture, utilise and share best practices and lessons learned
• Manage stakeholder interactions, communications and reporting; operate with openness and coherence, and maintain strong collaborative relationships and rapport at all levels

Qualifications & Experience

• Professionally Qualified Engineer (e.g. UK minimum HND/foundation degree or other national equivalent) in an engineering discipline.
• Meets recognised professional engineering criteria (e.g. ECUK IEng or CEng)
• Sound knowledge of design intent requirements related to high value products (e.g. structural integrity, materials, inspection techniques, codes/specifications, regulatory compliance)
• Knowledge and understanding of relevant manufacturing technologies, methods and processes
• Awareness of relevant manufacturing systems and software tools
• Knowledge and ideally experience of industrial capability readiness requirements and protocols 
• Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary integrated project team construct, ideally with experience of delivering joint industry/academia capability acquisitions projects
• Strong planning and organising skills necessary to successfully deliver complex and innovative high value projects, within agreed cost and timescale constraints
• Experience working within an engineering business familiar with the manufacture of nuclear heavy industry product (or similar high regulation industries).
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience meeting nuclear regulations and codes preferred (e.g. ASME).
• Ability to integrate well within a project team in a commercial environment.  This will include working in collaboration with external partners and suppliers.
• Experience in complying with Export Control requirements.
