The HR – People Business Partner will be responsible for:
Monitor the people performance of allocated departments by regularly analysing people data (including. turnover, attendance, resourcing, utilisation, exit interviews, induction feedback) and making recommendations for change and improvement.
Ensure that appropriate data and reports are being produced by the People Data and Systems team to meet your needs and those of your managers.
Attend termly and annual business planning meetings with your managers and their Finance Business Partner, to discuss the department’s pay budget, financial and staffing performance, staff deployment/succession planning and any changes that need to be implemented as a result.
Lead on all employee relations cases (Grievance, Capability and Disciplinary) in your departments, as well as on reward, performance management, change management and restructures ensuring that accurate advice and guidance is given in line with college objectives and legal guidelines. To include updating our insurers as required to maintain our indemnity. Escalating all Appeals to the People Team Manager and utilising your People & Resourcing Advisor to support as required.
Update the People Team Manager on people operations within your departments, in particular highlighting any areas of risk or inefficiency.
Provide coaching to your managers on a one to one or group basis on any aspect of employment law or people management to ensure they have the skills required to effectively lead and manage their teams.
Carry out first day inductions for new staff in your departments, ideally face to face, ensuring they settle into the college and receive a positive induction from their department.
Maintaining up to date employment law knowledge via a range of upskilling tools to ensure up to date and accurate advice and guidance minimising risk to the College.
Act as a specialist for a departmental topic agreed with the People Team Manager, keeping up to date with changes, making recommendations, advising the team on best practice, responsibility for related projects and improvements and ensuring best practice and efficiency.
Liaise with the quality team (and other colleagues managing people development) to ensure you are aware of staff development that impacts your departments, ensuring this activity adds value to the department and college.
Perform other tasks within the remit of a People Business Partner, this may include but is not limited to: project work; involvement with resourcing; cover for colleagues; representing the People Team at meetings, both internally and externally; carrying out salary assessments; policy review.
Team Management:
Effective line management of a People & Resourcing Advisor and a People & Resourcing Assistant, ensuring they carry out their roles to a high standard, have objectives that align to the people department and college strategies, that they have regular 121s, team meetings, Appraisals, and that they are provided with opportunities to develop.
Ensure that your team provides comprehensive, accurate, professional and timely service to your managers in all aspects of people operations, in line with college policies & procedures and departmental KPIs, including: employment law advice; contracts; resourcing; onboarding; induction; payroll; employee relations; absence management; reorganisations.
Responsible for ensuring your team provides high quality and timely people resourcing and onboarding:
Monitor SEAFs and ensure these are dealt with proactively, provide advice and guidance on each resourcing campaign as necessary to include job description and person specification feedback and job evaluation.
Attend any interviews up to HoC level, should you be required.
Review and update standard offer letters and contracts held on Resource Link foraccuracy at regular intervals.
Check all onboarding in your departments (ensuring we have all required pre-employment checks).
Check and sign off all Notification of Employments (NOE): starters, leavers, changes.
Ensure all staff have up to date Contracts of Employment, offer letters and job descriptions, and that they are provided with suitable documentation if any changes occur to these.
Provide clear guidance, support and advice to your People & Resourcing Advisor on any employee relations cases or investigations that you allocate to them, and review their progress in their absence, probation and family friendly cases.
Represent the People Team at college events and inductions, as required, and ensuring that the team supports the college at such events.
The HR – People Business Partner will need to have:
Up to date employment law knowledge
Level 7 CIPD qualification (or level 5 & working towards level 7)
Level 2 Maths & English
Significant proven ER and transactional experience within a similar level, fast paced HR/People team
Experience of dealing with complex ER cases from start to finish
