Position: Special Education Teacher (Emotionally Impaired or Autism Spectrum Disorder
(3) positions)- Face to Face Classroom Instruction
Effective Date: August 2022
Certification/
Qualifications: 1. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate;
2. Endorsement in Emotional Impairments and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder;
4. Such alternatives to the above qualification as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Salary: Wage and benefits to be in accordance with the
Master Agreement for Certified Staff
Essential Job Duties:
1. Demonstrate ability to handle aggressive behavior both physically and emotionally. 2. Demonstrate ability to handle conflict productively.
3. Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain boundaries with students/families. 4. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds, walk short distances and attend to personal care of students.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Serve as the primary planner and lead teacher for students. Ensure that the student’s individual educational plan (IEP) is implemented as indicated on the Individualized Educational Planning Team
(IEPT) meeting .
2. Complete functional behavioral assessment and appropriate positive behavior support plans, either independently or as a member of a team.
3. Participate as a member of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) for all students assigned as the lead teacher.
4. Cooperate with special education support personnel (i.e., teacher-consultants, social workers, psychologists, speech therapists, etc.) in the provision of related educational services to students.
5. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of the students.
6. Prepare for daily lessons and show evidence of preparation through development of IEPC’s, performance objectives and lesson plans books.
7. Maintain student discipline and standards of appropriate classroom behavior in a fair and just manner.
8. Employ a variety of instructional and behavioral techniques and resources consistent with parameters of the educational environment and the needs and limitations of the students involved.
9. Assess the growth of students and provide progress s as required.
10. Communicate student’s progress on a regular basis.
11. Diagnose the learning and behavioral needs/modalities of students seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
12. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
13. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative request.
14. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for instructional assistants and offer input to supervisor regarding evaluations of the job performance.
15. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
16. Identify and utilize available community resources for educational purposes.
17. Maintain inventory and order supplies and equipment.
18. Make provisions to be available to students and parents for educational related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. 19. Visit student homes when necessary.
20. Establish an effective means of communication with the parent(s) of each student assigned. 21. Such other duties as may be assigned the immediate supervisor, Director of Special Education, Superintendent or Board of
Education.
