Ministry of Defence Hiring for Teacher/Trainer (Burnham Lecturer) IT/ICT and Communications Information Systems at Blandford Forum, Dorset Full Time

We have several vacancies for IT/CIS Burnham Lecturers and Specialist Trainers (Specialist Instructional Officers) to prepare future Defence IT/ICT professionals for the technological challenges they face both now and in the future.

11th (RSS) Signal Regiment, Blandford Camp, Dorset, is part of the Defence College of Technical Training (DCTT) and delivers Information Technology (IT), Information Communications Technology and Communications Information Systems (CIS) training and education to Defence Personnel (Navy (Sailors), Army (Soldiers) and Royal Air Force (Aviators).

The ideal Lecturer candidate will have a degree in an IT related subject or an IT related Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) subject and a teaching qualification of at level 5 (Certificate of Education (Cert Ed)). The ideal specialist technical trainer (SIO) candidate will have, a technical or vocational qualifications, have followed a recognised apprenticeship pathway or can demonstrate 4 years’ relevant experience will be considered for the specialist technical trainer (SIO) role. Further teacher/trainer training is available for successful candidates at level 4, 5 and level 6.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in delivering computer sciences and either of the following vocational and academic subjects:

• Networking (ITN, SWRE, ENSA (ROUTE, 300-115 SWITCH and 300-135 TSHOOT). Ideally you will hold or be actively working towards attaining ENCOR and ENARSI instructor status.
• Microsoft Operating Systems (Server and Exchange to MTA standard) and CompTIA+.
• IT/Software Engineering, Programming Languages (Python, SQL), Microsoft Office 365 Applications
• Level 6 Degree IT/ICT Engineering Science and Electronics.

The key tasks of all lecturers and trainers are:

• Training Delivery. Deliver technical theory lectures and practical training in compliance with Defence Systems Approach to Training, training specifications and Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers in Education and Training (PSTTET).
• Training Delivery. Maintain a safe training environment conducive to learning.
• Training Delivery. Contribute to the development and maintenance of course subject matter content in accordance with DSAT and PSTTET.
• Training Delivery. Maintain own Subject Matter Expertise, undertake Continuous Professional Development.
• Training Quality Assurance. Contribute to maintenance of training quality through reflective practice and training quality audits.
• Training Quality Assurance. Maintain Training Delivery Documentation (lesson specification, lesson plans and lesson content including delivery media).

Qualifications

Entry as a Lecturer. Minimum of Level 6 Degree or equivalent in IT/ICT or related IT STEM subject. In addition to this, a teaching qualification that equates to at least level 5 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) i.e., Cert Ed, is required. (The Postgraduate Certificate in Education is at level 6 on the QCF and is desirable.)

In exceptional circumstances, individuals may be recruited to the BL Group without such a teaching qualification. In this case there should be an agreement as part of the job offer that a teaching qualification will be undertaken and should be completed within two standard academic years. Successful achievement of the qualification is a requirement to retain employment. Entry as a Specialist Instructional Officer is open to those who have completed a recognised technical apprenticeship or who have 4 years technical experience gained in a relevant telecommunication’s role or 4 years relevant military communications experience. 

Technical skills
