An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced teacher to contribute to the work of the Overseas Education and Supportability Team based within Defence Children’s Services.
The Education Adviser provides support and professional guidance to parents who are preparing to post overseas or during on assignment overseas and in preparation for the return from the assignment. As a qualified and experienced teacher, the Overseas Education Adviser will manage complex casework and parental queries requiring professional advice appertaining to children’s education in an overseas location. The OEST Education Adviser reports to the Overseas Supportability Team Leader and works with the MASO/SCAN Coordinator to develop and manage processes and support for overseas supportability. The role will provide professional recommendations to Commands and parents regarding overseas supportability, including representing DCS in the educational MOD Assessment of Supportability (MASO) process and providing holistic professional advice for children with complex needs. The role includes the organisation and management of the Emerging Needs MASO process, for Service Families overseas.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
This role sites within the Overseas Education & Supportability Team (DCS-SSS-OEST) based at Upavon and led by the SEO – Overseas Education & Supportability Team Leader. The team engages with service personnel and other entitled civilians who require advice and guidance about their children’s education during overseas tours; provides specialist advice and guidance in respect of children with SEND; and works with parents in preparation for return to the United Kingdom or transfer to another overseas location. This team are responsible for standard educational clearances for overseas locations; the co-ordination of the MOD Assessment of Supportability Overseas (MASO) process and the provision of advice, guidance; and evaluation of Elective Home Education for the children of service personnel and entitled civilians in overseas locations.
