Mingus Mountain Academy is a residential treatment center for emotionally and behaviorally at-risk adolescent girls that helps them achieve a positive, healthy future. Founded in 1985, the Academy is located on a 120-acre campus surrounded by National Forest, 25 minutes from the town of Prescott Valley, Arizona. Our program combines a positive culture, caring staff, careful medical treatment, individualized psychotherapy and education, and numerous activities, including our unique equestrian program

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under general direction of the Executive Director, The Director of Education is responsible for the quality, services, and development of Mingus Mountain Academy’s education program and the academic milieu. Provides supervision of MMA’s school staff. Mingus utilizes computer based learning in a traditional classroom environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides team leadership and supervision and support to MMA education staff, interns, and volunteers by:

• Participating in the hiring and training process
• Monitoring lesson plans, instructional methods, progress notes, observing the therapeutic learning environment.
• Providing leadership and coordination to team
• Oversee creative and innovative learning activities:
• Education related field trips
• Visitors- special programs, student rewards
• Ensure schedules are being followed
• Communicate regularly with teachers, other directors, and local education agencies
• Ensure the student educational plans and schedules are constructed to match individual needs, including level of functioning and current credit status.
• Provide training to staff members as necessary
• Reviewing and updating Student Handbook
• Working directly with students
• Coordinating daily transportation to/from school

• Completing informal and formal staff performance evaluations by direct classroom observation.
• Serves as a team member of a larger multi-disciplinary team:
• Attends All Staff Meeting
• Cooperates with the Business Manager providing billing information, budget accountability,
• Purchase requisitions forms submittal and approval
• Staffing patterns and salary schedules
• erving as public relations agent for the development of a Charter School. Promote Charter School to area districts.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid AZ. Drivers License,
• Able to satisfy MMA’s policies for hiring.
• Individual judgment, discretion and decision making skills.
• Emotionally and physically able to assist in physical management of students and participate in AWOL searches.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ARS-15-533 AZ higher education degree. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university . School Administration Certification. Experience in staff supervision. Evidence of teaching certificate and teaching experience with special needs adolescents. Evidence of continuing education. Experience with organizational budget management.’
