Milton Keynes College Prison Services Team at HMP Woodhill are seeking innovative Teachers/Support Staff to work with a diverse group of learners, helping to build their confidence, develop their skills and achieve within a college environment. The College are looking for candidates interested in variable/ad-hoc and permanent hours, who are keen to explore Prison Education.

HMP Woodhill are currently looking for individuals with one or more of the below skillsets to support their curriculum delivery – Ability as a generalist teacher to cover more than 1 of these areas would be beneficial.

TEACHING ROLES

• Functional Skills English – Entry to Level 2
• Functional Skills Maths – Entry to Level 2
• Vocational Tutors (i.e. Construction, Hospitality and Catering)

§ Mentoring / Food Safety / Music Technology / Employability & Digital Skills /

Personal Social Development (PSD)

NON-TEACHING ROLES

• Learner Supporting roles – Promoting the benefits of education to learners inside the prison and encouraging them to enrol on courses with education. Confidence in engaging with a wide variety of people, good verbal and written communication. Patience and Empathy required, ability to complete written reports on time and to high standards
• Department Administration – Typical admin role/duties, based inside a prison – supporting the wider education team.

A teaching qualification would be desirable, however those willing to work towards a teaching qualification who hold supporting subject specialism or industry experience would also be considered – we can provide the training to help you achieve your full potential.

Prison education runs all year round, all day Monday-Thursday and until lunchtime on a Friday. Delivery hours vary slightly prison to prison but full days are split across 2 long lessons (Morning and Afternoon).

Milton Keynes College are offering potential candidates who possess suitable skills/experience the opportunity to visit prison for an open event. This will allow candidates to experience the environment and find out more about the day-to-day regime and expectations.

ABOUT HMP Woodhill

HMP Woodhill is part of the Long Term and High Security estate, housing mainly Category B prisoners, but also some Category A prisoners. The Education department works closely with prison colleagues to ensure the courses delivered are relevant to the prisoners’ complex needs, rehabilitation and resettlement.

Courses include: English and Maths Functional Skills (Entry 1 – Level 2), Art, Music Technology, Food Safety, Health and Safety and a wide range of personal and social development courses. Vocational courses consist of Catering and Hospitality, Painting and Decorating and Construction Multi-Skills including Kitchen Fitting and Tiling.
