Painstakingly restored, the nearly 95-year-old, 1,200-seat theatre is home to national, regional, and local acts. In addition, The Midland is actively supported by a community that values entertainment and appreciates the theatre’s historical significance and legacy to Newark and the central Ohio region.

Job Description

We are looking to hire an experienced marketing professional with excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills to create and execute our marketing campaigns and build our audience base. You will be responsible for evaluating and developing marketing strategies, planning and coordinating marketing efforts, communicating the marketing plans to artist agencies, and designing graphics to build awareness. You will also work closely with the Director of Development to aid in fundraising. Additionally, you will photograph and document artist performances and coordinate with local media for coverage. Finally, you will maintain the venue’s email campaigns, social media channels, website, and other business-related pages and sites.

A bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or communications is preferred to be considered for this position. In addition, you need to have a solid and diverse marketing and design portfolio.

The Marketing Manager is a full-time, salaried position, ing to the Executive Director.

Marketing Manager Responsibilities:

• Act as the key internal contact with various stakeholders to prepare, present and execute marketing and promotional campaigns
• Oversee social media marketing strategy and content marketing
• Manage The Midland Theatre website
• Build brand awareness and positioning while helping to increase market share
• Oversee and manage annual theatre and event marketing budgets
• Analyze and optimize marketing and sales strategies based on performance data
• Conduct competitive research to assist with programming, marketing, and operational decisions
• Research artist and production metrics to assist with talent-buying offers
• Develop sales and marketing materials to assist with communication to Annual Fund Members and attract new supporters to the theatre’s development programs
• Serve as the primary local contact for artist marketing representatives regarding venue and show marketing plans
• Compile and share extensive audience and artist demographic information to shape the development of marketing plans and programming strategies
• Prepare and present quarterly and annual s to senior management and the Board of Directors
• Represent the theatre at trade shows and industry-related events

Marketing Manager Qualifications and Experience:

• Flexible schedule, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends
• Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or communications is preferred
• Minimum of 3+ years prior experience in event marketing within a theatre, venue, entertainment, live performance, or sports setting
• Highly organized with excellent communication skills across audiences, including staff, Board of Directors, patrons, and outside partners
• Experience creating, executing, managing, and analyzing marketing campaigns and digital ad campaigns
• Experience working with external sales and marketing agencies
• Practical time management skills and the ability to multitask
• Strong copywriting skills
• Attention to detail
• Proven ability to manage budgets
• Experience building and maintaining a revenue-generating website
• Experience with digital marketing forms such as social media marketing and content marketing
• Experience with Google Analytics and conversion tracking tactics
• Experience using CRMs, email marketing platforms, and donor management software (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Blackbaud, etc.)
• Competency in Adobe products, including Photoshop and InDesign
• Experience with office suite products like Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides), or Apple iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote)
• Photography and videography experience

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $1.00 – $2.00 per year
