Michigan Online School Hiring for Special Education Coordinator 2022-2023 SY Job at Kalamazoo, MI Full Time

In collaboration with the Special Education Manager, the Leadership team and other MOS staff, the coordinator will assist with compliance monitoring (document quality, timelines, data collection), provision of Professional Development and training, and coach staff providing observation/feedback. In addition, the Special Education Coordinator supports the creation of appropriate programming for transfer students by collaborating with the enrollment team and prior school to obtain documents and understand student needs. Assists in implementation of Extended School Year program and gathering student data required for state reporting. Makes and implements student centered decisions in accordance with all state laws and regulations and MOS procedures and policies. This is a virtual position, but some in person work will be required throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

• Attend relevant trainings offered by county agencies and the department of education to stay current on regulations and best practices
• Develop and facilitate professional development and training on varied Special Education topics
• Coordinate with enrollment team, manager and registrar to understand volume and needs of newly enrolling Special Education students, gather existing documentation, and assign students to caseloads
• Coordinate accommodations with State testing coordinator
• Provide Onsite support at State testing sites
• Review all Special Education documents, including IEPs, for compliance and quality and provide feedback and coaching to special educators prior to IEP meeting
• Act as district representative at IEP meetings
• Assist special educators with complex parent communications as needed
• Monitor special education staff compliance with timelines and data collection
• Partner with special education staff during instructional time with students and provide feedback
• Partner with grade Principals to ensure communication and consistency in general education and special education programming
• Collaborate with Operations manager, Special education manager, State Reporting staff to gather/enter all needed data into state and federal systems
• Participates in trainings and meetings held by the ACCEL Special Education team
• Perform all other job duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Master’s Degree Preferred
• Current Michigan Special Education Teacher Certificate/ Experience as a coordinator preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite Products
• Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and exhibit sound judgment while maintaining that confidentiality.
