DescriptionGeneral SummaryCurrently, we have a great opportunity available for a Logistics Specialist to join our Americas Supply Chain team.
In this role, you will provide operational support for all processes associated with inbound and outbound shipments for the Americas Supply Chain.
Inbound shipments form our raw material suppliers as well as outbound shipments to our customers both domestically and internationally are included in the scope of this role.
You will partner with the supply chain team, customer service team and our commercial team to ensure on time performance for our shipping processes as well as addressing any gaps in these processes through sustainable improvements.
Primary ResponsibilitiesFreight On-Time DeliveryResponsible for tracking shipments both inbound and outbound, domestic and international in partnership with warehouses, forwarders, customs brokers, procurement, supply chain and Michelman entities globally to secure timely communication on status and ensure achievement of on-time delivery.
Support the daily management of our logistics partners as escalation point of contact for any shipping challenges, including freight carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers and other entities involved in shipments.
Responsible for working with our logistics partners to address chronic shipping issues, through a monthly or quarterly auditing process and also filing complaints or claims as needed, with the goal of eliminating defects in cost or on time delivery sustainably.
Ensure key data supporting shipping as well as import and export processing utilized in JDE and other systems are accurate including all documentation with shipments (Bill of Lading, Packing list, Commercial Invoice, etc.
and address any gaps in these documents.Work with MMTPS on the hazardous goods inspection process to ensure process meets expectations and prevents any delayed shipments.
Proactively work with Carriers to ensure coverage for pickups from Michelman during peak periods and holiday periods throughout the year.
Review transit times and costs for all freight lanes at least quarterly and provide feedback on trends to the to the supply chain teams.
Establish key KPI’s to support logistics processes including costs and transit times to drive improvement in all processes associated with logistics.
Freight Bill Auditing / Cost ControlReview freight invoices / bills weekly and monthly provided from finance and identify anomalies and provide feedback to finance as part of the freight audit and pay process.
Provide rate quotes to internal business partners for cost analysis supporting them in accurately making business decisions around overall operational costs.
Track and monitor average freight rates for all modes and lanes for lanes and highlight increase or decreases for awareness to Supply Chain ManagerEstablish process to secure competitive rates for high dollar shipments, i.
e. export air freight in partnership with logistics providersCritical Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExperience with domestic and international shipping, including trucking (FTL, LTL, Temperature controlled), ocean / air import and export.
Knowledge of INCO terms, NAFTA and Haz Mat shipment requirementsUnderstands data fields in ERP systems driving freight / shipping processesStrong communication and organizational skills and attention to detailAble to build effective working relationships across the functional teams and with the international organizationStrong problem-solving skillsStrong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and ExcelFlexibility to occasionally work beyond established hoursEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma required;
college degree in logistics or supply chain preferredAt least 3 5 years of logistics / freight forwarding experience including experience with international and domestic shipping in all modes (truck, ocean / air import export, etc.
