JOB SUMMARY & PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS

REPORTS TO: Supervisor – ISRC Program

DEPARTMENT NAME: Office of English Learners

JOB SUMMARY (2-3 sentences): Assesses English Language Proficiency of Non-English Language Background (NELB) students.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: List, in the order of time spent, the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.

Job Responsibility 1:
Administers the state-mandated English Language Proficiency (ELP) initial placement test and state-mandated English Language Proficiency (ELP) annual test.

Job Responsibility 2:
Works with District and school staff to set testing appointments.

Job Responsibility 3:
Explains ELP testing procedures to students and parents.

Job Responsibility 4:
Uses rubric to score assessment and calculate final score, determining student’s language proficiency level.

Job Responsibility 5:
Analyzes and interprets ELP test results for District staff as well as students, parents, and community members.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES, REQUIREMENTS, AND IMPACTS

Performs work involving the application of logical principles and thinking to solve practical problems within or applying to a unit or division of the organization; requires continuous, close attention for accurate results and frequent exposure to unusual pressure.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS: “Impact of Decisions” refers to consequences such as damage to property, loss of data or property, exposure of the organization to legal liability, or injury or death to individuals.

Makes decisions with serious impact – affects most units in organization, and may affect citizens.

EQUIPMENT USAGE: “Equipment Usage” refers to inanimate objects such as substances, materials, machines, tools, equipment, work aids, or products. A thing is tangible and has shape, form, and other physical characteristics.

Establishes methods and procedures for acquiring and handling machines, tools, equipment, or work aids involving extensive latitude for judgment regarding attainment of standard or in selecting appropriate items.

SAFETY OF OTHERS: “Safety of Others” refers to the responsibility for other people’s safety, either inherent in the job or to assure the safety of the general public.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: “Education Requirements” refers to job specific training and education required for entry into the position.

Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: “Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations” refers to professional, state, or federal licenses, certifications, or registrations required entering the position.

Active Valid Tennessee Teacher’s License. ESL endorsement (490).

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: “Experience Requirements” refers to the amount of work experience that is required for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that the person can perform the tasks required by the position.

Minimum of two years’ directly applicable experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: “Physical Demands” refers to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Standing and walking: generally 6 hours per day (sedentary)

Lifting and carrying: frequently lifting 10 lbs and occasionally lifting 30 lbs

Push and pull: unlimited grasp and fingering

Dexterity: ability to operate machines, tools or office equipment

Additional requirements: unlimited reaching to shoulder height; frequently climbs stairs; exposure to heat extremes.

The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.
