EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Conceive, develop, and implement educational programming for the Museum based on strategies recommended in the guiding plans and documents such as, but not limited to family days, classes, exhibition education strategies, workshops, lectures, films, panel discussions and special events.Ensures all interpretive and educational programs are enjoyable and accessible for the broadest and most diverse public, and that educational programs are of uniformly high quality.Train and provide work direction to part?time and temporary staff; assist with hiring, performance evaluation, disciplinary action and termination for staff; provide training on proper use of equipment; provide training on proper procedures; oversee and review work to assure the proper and timely completion of assignments.Assist in the development and management of the annual budget for the program of responsibility; assist in monitoring the museum’s revenues and expenses in compliance with the Board approved budget.Oversee docent and internship programs to ensure the highest quality programs are incorporated into the Museum’s public offerings.Shaping new and existing programs for multigenerational audiences (from the very young to older adults) to offer diverse audiences a lifetime of dynamic History -related learning experiences.Assess the Museum’s current programs for multigenerational audiences as well as the Museum’s niche in the local and national education market, and guides staff in the development of programs that exceed the expectations of existing audiences and attract new audiences.Serve as an institutional liaison with schools, museums, supporters of educational initiatives and other partners and to secure long-term relationships to enhance museum education and outreach.Develop educational programs for local schools.Maintain contact with various educational resources for the purpose of promoting school programs and developing collaborative efforts.Maintain strong cooperative relationships with and programs for area educational institutions, including public school districts, school networks and resource groups, appropriate universities and colleges of education.Stay abreast of national and international trends in education, models current learning theory and practice, and mentors staff in their development as History museum educators.Maintain facilities and resource centers as assigned; schedule facilities; coordinate and conduct group tours; develop presentation materials to include speeches regarding the assigned facility; make digital presentations as necessary.Assist in the preparation of interpretive presentations, exhibits, exhibit texts and similar programs as required; research, write and train staff on training materials. Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in history, education or related field and a minimum of two years of experience in education required. Five years of related experience may substitute for the degree. Master’s degree and experience with living history preferred.
