Position Summary: Manage modifications to process equipment and methodologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of chemical production. Investigate manufacturing processes to determine improvements and changes that will result in reduced precious metal inventory, lower operating costs, and safer operations. Support Environmental, Health & Safety activities by performing a variety of tasks as directed.
Responsibilities:
· Manage and resolve daily operational problems.
· Oversee in scheduling material flow and production operations through specific production departments as needed.
· Manage projects involving chemical processes, solution flows and/or wastewater treatment operations.
· Manage all CAPEX projects including equipment replacement, process improvement and building renovations as required.
· Develop or revise equipment specification and selection in the case of breakdowns or improvements.
· Select, specify and order automatic control equipment as required.
· Prepare control schemes and programming for automatic control of various chemical operations.
· Work with EH&S to establish safety procedures for workplace hazards.
· Responsible for coordination with maintenance, electricians, and outside contractors as needed for the department.
· Evaluate processes and equipment to ensure regulatory compliance.
· Perform other duties as directed.
Requirements/Qualifications:
· A demonstrated ability to manage projects, select chemical process equipment and prepare process flow diagrams.
· Working knowledge of inorganic chemistry, unit operations and analytical techniques.
· Ability to do chemical and metallurgical calculations such as mass balances, or chemical consumptions.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
· Proficiency using AutoCAD or analogous CAD software
· Effective verbal and written English communication skills.
· Ability to write technical procedures and effectively train.
· Contribute to a team environment.
Education: Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
Experience: Prefer at least 5 years hands-on experience with chemical or precious metal operations. Experience preparing automatic control schemes a plus.
Experience designing and operating electrolytic cells a plus. Working knowledge of industrial wastewater treatment operations a plus. Working knowledge of programming language a plus.
