Who Will You Report Into?

Hello, my name is Marc Stockman, co-founder, and CEO of Metabolic. We’ve reached the point of scale that requires us to insource our previously outsourced financial operations. We’re looking for a hands-on, get-things-done Controller who is energized at tackling that challenge and transforming our financial operations into a systematic machine. At some point, you’ve likely seen how NOT to do things… well, this is your opportunity to do things the right way out of the gate.

What’s unique about this opportunity is that you’ll be our internal financial leader until we hire a full-time CFO next year. That means you’ll have the opportunity to own strategic responsibilities that will develop your skills and wisdom more rapidly than otherwise. We’ll work closely together on the vision for a world class operational finance team, and I’ll help remove obstacles so you can deliver ASAP.

• IT – Our IT team is will support implementing workflow automations as your build-out internal systems and will integrate any necessary custom API integrations with 3rd party systems

• Analytics – Our analytics team will connect all sources of financial data via PowerBI and Tableau to provide you a holistic picture of business performance, opportunities, and risk.
• Senior Leaders – Our senior leaders will actively engage in building departmental budgets, outlining resource needs, and analyzing data to spot cost savings opportunities.
• Executive Support – We’ll be with you every step of the way, and your success is our success. You can expect us to be fully transparent and remove any barriers that stand in your way.

What’s the Ideal Candidate’s Background?

You’re extremely strong with technical accounting and value quality, precision, accuracy, and timeliness… yet you’re also energized by a hyper-growth, dynamic, and sometimes ambiguous environment. You’re steeped in all things DTC: e-commerce ops, inventory management, payment processing, supply chain and performance marketing. And you’ve mastered the core controller accountabilities including accounting, financial reporting, cash management/forecasting, treasury, audit and taxes. You spot inefficiencies quickly, drive necessary change and relentlessly pursue things to completion.

Just as importantly, you’re extremely into health, wellness, and/or fitness. You love experimenting with new habits, realize how important having an optimized daily routine is, and simply can’t get enough of this stuff. Perhaps you’ve had a health challenge that got you interested, or you’ve just always been highly passionate about health, wellness, and fitness. What Will You Be Working On?

• Build a World-Class Financial Function – You’ll architect all key financial/accounting functions, including building and managing a small team, timely monthly close SOP, audits, budgeting, financial reporting, developing and monitoring KPIs, cash flow management and forecasting, preparing financial analysis, technical accounting, developing and monitoring internal controls, and architecting our financial operations to handle rapid scale.
• Daily Financial Functions – You’ll be hands-on with the day-to-day technical accounting and financial operations functions, ensuring everything runs smoothly and delivers on time and spec.
• Deliver Efficiencies – You’ll continually look for better ways to streamline, identify, and correct inefficiencies, ensuring things run faster, smoother, and more cost-effectively. You’ll work with our business leaders to prepare budgets, identify cost savings and improve efficiencies.
• ERP Implementation – You’ll be involved in the selection, testing, and implementation of a new ERP as we transition away from QuickBooks.

• 10 Years’ Accounting – Technical accounting, GAAP, Excel, QuickBooks, financial reporting, and ERP implementation experience, balanced with sound business judgment, and team leadership

• 3 Years’ Direct-to-Consumer – Hands-on experience in direct-to-consumer and eCommerce, with strong inventory and cost accounting skills in consumer products, food/beverage, or manufacturing
• 5 Years’ Financial Experience – Short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting, month and year-end closing process, working capital management, tax audits, and profitability analysis
