Meta Hiring for Research Engineer, AI for Chemistry – FAIR at San Francisco, CA Full Time

Meta’s Fundamental AI Research organization (FAIR) is developing AI-based methods to accelerate novel material discovery. In this position you will be joining the FAIR Chemistry team doing this work. The material domains currently being worked on are electro-catalysts for CO2RR & OER, nano-porous materials for direct air capture, and new materials for display technologies.Potential job functions will include: developing efficient large-scale distributed compute to run DFT and other chemical modeling methods, designing novel ML modeling methods, optimization of ML methods, building cloud services for computational chemistry, and interfacing with experimental chemists doing high-throughput synthesis and analysis of new materials.You will have the opportunity to publish and open-source some of the work. This role will have significant collaboration with other groups at Meta and with several university chemical engineering departments. The aim of the work is to go end to end from computational discovery to productizing new materials, so you will have the opportunity to work across that entire lifecycle.Research areas may include Machine Learning, Graph Neural Networks, Graph learning, Density Functional Theory, Computational chemistry, Optics, or other similar fields.

Research Engineer, AI for Chemistry – FAIR Responsibilities:

• Developing datasets to train and test AI models for Chemistry
• Developing and training AI models for Chemistry in PyTorch
• Running large-scale chemistry simulations.
• Developing processes to feedback experimental results into chemistry models
• Efficiency optimization of classic and ML based chemistry software
• Writing research papers and associated open source data and code releases

Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science with exposure to ML for scientific applications

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science specializing in ML for chemistry
• PostDoc or 1+ years experience in and ML for science role
