JOB SUMMARY:
Messer Cutting Systems offers innovative software and equipment that is world renowned. Our “total solution” approach offers customers a single source provider in the metal fabrication industry. As the R&D Applications Engineer, you will apply your engineering skills and creative abilities to develop processing techniques and software solutions to produce the best outcome for the customer’s application in multiple industries. The primary focus of this position is precision fiber laser cutting, also including other processes such as plasma, oxyfuel and drill/mill operations. The R&D Applications Engineer will train others to become proficient in all processes and software solutions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Undertake industrial laser application development projects using fiber laser technology
· Program and develop parameters for Messer’s machines to achieve customer specific requirements based on their products and/or sample materials
· Fully document and on these projects, both internally and to customers
· Support customers both before and after machine sales to help maintain a high degree of customer satisfaction
· Offer solutions to enhance metal fabrication processes such as plasma, laser, oxyfuel and drill/mill operations
· Frequently handle small and delicate parts, and operate high precision tools, inspection devices, and laser processing equipment
· Independently set up, adjust, or modify laser systems and critical optomechanical components as dictated by the needs of each project
· Remain up-to-date of pertinent industry, applications, and technology trends
· Facilitate remote, in-house, and onsite customer training and support on machine operation, process optimization and CAD/CAM programming software
o Remote, in-house and onsite training to customers requires 25% travel
· Collaborate cross-functionally to develop new product lines prior to launching
· Manage enhancement and bug fix lists and test software after changes and upgrades
· Attend trade shows to represent the company and products
· Conduct equipment and software demonstrations and presentations to prospective customers
· Participate in continuous improvement projects and proactively maintain collaborative relationships.
· Support a global network by effective communication skills across geographic, cultural, cross-functional, and organizational differences
