Full-time (1.0 FTE) Continuing Contract, based in Darwin

Menzies School of Health Research is looking for a Finance Officer to play an integral role in ensuring the objectives of the Finance Department are met by providing financial and administrative support to the organisation. The Finance Officer will be responsible the timing processing and general maintenance of accounts payable and receivable functions, whilst always ensuring that legislative and Menzies internal requirements are met.

The Finance officer will also:

• Undertake recording of receipts, checking bank balances and depositing banking as required.
• Prepare and maintain Accounts Payable (AP), including (but not limited to) processing of supplier invoices, maintenance of the creditor ledger, supplier statement reconciliations, payment run processes and reconciliation of the AP subsidiary ledger to the General ledger.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders, debtors and creditors for the prompt resolution of discrepancies, disputes and queries.
• Provide support for internal stakeholders in the Purchasing processes, including raising of requisitions and receipting of goods and services.
• Process data efficiently and accurately to meet financial deadlines and ensure that supporting documentation is uploaded for reference.

What you will bring to the role

To be successful in this role you must be highly motivated, organised, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. You will have detailed knowledge, understanding and proven experience and ability in all applicable finance and business processes.

You also possess:

• Completion of a relevant Diploma level qualification in accounting or business combined with relevant work-related experience or a minimum Cert 111 level qualification with several years of relevant work experience.
• Attention to detail and proven work performance with a high level of accuracy.
• Exceptional written & oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective communication, relationships and networks with colleagues, stakeholders and partners.
• Demonstrated high-level computer literacy skills, particularly relevant finance solution systems, Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office products.

For appointment at a higher level 5, you will have:

• Completion of a degree without subsequent relevant work experience or completion of an associate diploma and a minimum two years relevant work experience.
• Ability to understand, interpret and apply relevant legislation (e.g. GST and FBT).
