Position Summary
The State Medical Director provides oversight for all medical/clinical aspects of the services delivered in North Carolina and serves an integral role in the treatment of patients in the behavioral health continuum.
Essential Functions/Main Responsibilities
● Provides oversite for all medical/clinical aspects of the services delivered and direct supervisor of medical staff including Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and the nursing team. _
● Identify appropriate evidence-based or emerging best practices therapies to be employed by staff in delivery services.
● Ensures coordination between the Mental Health and Substance Abuse services delivered with primary healthcare provider
● Consults with primary healthcare providers on the clinical aspects of the individual being served and the implications for those individuals physical healthcare needs.
● Supervision of other MD’s and Nurse Practitioners
● Provides direct services (Medication management, psychiatric evaluation, review and coordinate medications with primary care physicians for the individuals we serve
Basic Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
► Education Required: ● Psychiatrist, Board Certified MD/DO
► Work Experience: ● Physician with ASAM or ABAM Certification
► Certifications/Licenses: ● Must have a current BLS and DEA Certification with no restrictions
● Licensed MD/DO- Board Certified or board eligible in General Practice, Internal
Medicine, or Pediatrics: with two or more years of direct service – with experience diagnosing, treating, and evaluating the effectiveness of treatment of the population served.
► Other Knowledge, Skills ● Experience with electronic medical records and/or Abilities: ● Prior experience leading other medical professionals

ACTT is a direct and indirect periodic service where the ACTT staff provides direct intervention and also arranges, coordinates, and monitors services on behalf of the recipient. This service is provided in any location. ACTT are intended to be provided on an individualized basis. ACTT services are primarily provided in a range of community settings such as recipient’s home, school, homeless shelters, libraries, etc.
