SALARY RANGE : $60,000 – $65,000 Annually + 401(k) match + generous PTO + competitive health / wellness benefits

MMI Overview : Memphis Music Initiative (MMI) invests in youth, local communities, and Memphis’ musical legacy by broadening and strengthening existing music engagement offerings in and out of schools and supporting youth-centered, community-based music programs.

• Through various investment strategies, MMI seeks to : 1) sustain existing in-school music engagement and expand instruction through partnerships with local musicians;
• 2) expand high-quality, out-of-school programs to reach more youth and remove barriers to youth engagement and participation;

3) support organizations that are providing music engagement enhance their sustainability and scale high quality programming.

Position Summary : The Manager, Fundraising and Special Projects is an experienced fundraiser and project manager. Working closely with the Executive Director and Director of Development, this position implements and manages key strategic fundraising initiatives and campaigns.

The Manager, Fundraising and Special Projects identifies fundraising opportunities, develops relationships with existing and potential donors, and is an integral contributor in all aspects of fundraising and grant writing.

Essential Functions :

• Strategize, execute, and manage ongoing strategic fundraising initiatives alongside the Director of Development and Executive Director
• Execute multi-layered annual fundraising campaigns (planning, communications, goals tracking)
• Research potential donors, including individuals, corporations, foundations, and public agencies whose values align with those of MMI
• Convey MMI’s mission, vision, and programs to potential donors and partners effectively
• Write fundraising proposals, targeted appeal letters, and acknowledgment letters
• Manage a diverse array of special projects for the Executive Director, e.g., attending stakeholder meetings, drafting communications, assessing risks / rewards, vetting projects, etc.
• Communicate information and coordinate actions with staff on behalf of the Executive Director
• Oversee the maintenance of donor records and administration of donor benefits within IRS guidelines and best practices
• Manage project budgets, create s and presentations, and maintain information and records
• Organize fundraising and profile-building events; assist team to manage volunteers

Minimum Qualifications :

• Three (3) years of professional fundraising, development, and / or grant writing experience
• Five (5) years of hands-on project management experience
• Significant experience engaging existing funders and cultivating potential donors
• Four (4) years of experience planning and coordinating fundraising events and activities
• Proficiency using productivity applications such as MS Office and Google Suites and c ompetence using a customer relationship management (CRM) platform such as Kindful
• Ability to research, compile data, create s, proofread, use basic math, and maintain records

Preferred Qualifications :

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Five (5) years of experience working in a nonprofit environment with a focus on youth development, social justice, advocacy or development of underserved Black and brown youth
• Demonstrated track record of meeting fundraising goals on an ongoing basis
• Ability to leverage digital technology and social media to support fundraising strategies
• Proficient presentation skills

Work Conditions : This is a full-time position requiring a 40-hour work week with occasional evenings and weekends. This position operates in an office environment with hybrid / remote options.

Some regional and / or domestic travel may be required from time to time.
